Buccal plate excision for buccal paramandibular spread
Journal of Surgical Oncology, 2006Cancer of buccal gingival sulcus lie in close proximity to mandible but tend to invade bone late in the course of disease. Segmental mandibulectomy advocated for these tumors results in cosmetic disfigurement and functional impairment. We, for the first time, describe a mandibular preservation alternative, in form of buccal cortical plate excision, for

Buccal fat pad’ buccal flap anatomical variation
Russian Journal of Operative Surgery and Clinical Anatomy, 2023Objective. To study the buccal fat pad’ buccal flap anatomical variation Material and methods. The male and female not fixed cadavers were selected for the study. Total number of observations was 194, taking into account the study of the right and left sides of each head: 50 — male and 47 — female.

To review the available literature as it pertains to the buccal space with a specific focus on the pathologies encountered within this space. Clinical presentation, investigations, and surgical approaches to the region are also reviewed.A systematic review of the available literature was performed on buccal space tumours from 1980 to 2017.

Teleconferencing is touted to be one of the main and most powerful uses of virtual reality (VR). While subtle facial movements play a large role in human-to-human interactions, current work in the VR space has focused on identifying discrete emotions and expressions through coarse facial cues and gestures.

Studies of populations with chronic cancer pain have shown a high prevalence of breakthrough pain (BTP), defined as transitory, severe flares of pain that occur on a background of otherwise controlled, persistent pain. High BTP prevalence rates have also been reported in patients with chronic noncancer pain, although data in these patient populations ...

Annals of Plastic Surgery, 1980
An operation to correct "chubby" cheeks is described. The technique is simple and safe and gives predictable results. The buccal lipectomy may be performed by itself or as an adjunct to other facial cosmetic surgery. No permanent complications were experienced in 9 patients over a three and a half-year period.

We studied 72 children (17 prospectively) with acute buccal cellulitis. The median age was 11 months. Fifty-five percent of patients were bacteremic, and three children without meningeal signs or symptoms had concomitant meningitis. Cellulitis aspirate cultures (eight of 35 positive) and urine bacterial antigen tests (13 of 27 positive) were useful in ...

The oral cavity is an attractive site for drug delivery due to ease of administration and avoidance of possible drug degradation in gastrointestinal tract and first-pass metabolism. Buccal drug delivery specifically refers to the delivery of drugs within/ through buccal mucosa to affect local/systemic pharmacological actions.

Expert Opinion on Drug Delivery, 2005
Buccal formulations have been developed to allow prolonged localised therapy and enhanced systemic delivery. The buccal mucosa, however, while avoiding first-pass effects, is a formidable barrier to drug absorption, especially for biopharmaceutical products (proteins and oligonucleotides) arising from the recent advances in genomics and proteomics.
