Development of mucoadhesive patches for buccal administration of ibuprofen
Journal of Controlled Release, 2004A new formulation for topical administration of drugs in the oral cavity has been developed using several film-forming and mucoadhesive polymers. The films have been evaluated in terms of swelling, mucoadhesion and organoleptic characteristics. The best film, containing polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as film-forming polymer and carboxymethylcellulose ...

Bioavailability of flurbiprofen following buccal administration.
Pharmaceutical research, 1991The buccal absorption of flurbiprofen was evaluated in nine normal volunteers. Twenty milliliters of 2.5 mg/ml flurbiprofen solution (pH 8.03) was administered as a 1-min mouthwash or a 5-min mouthwash or swallowed. Serum was harvested from blood samples taken at specified times over a 12-hr period.

A REVIEW ON BUCCAL MUCOSAL ROUTE OF DRUG ADMINISTRATION
INDIAN DRUGS, 2016Oral route is the most preferred rote of drug administration. In oral route buccal mucosal route is one of the advantageous routes of drug administration. This route provides direct access to systemic circulation through the jugular vein, bypassing the first pass hepatic metabolism, which leads to high bioavailability.

Systemic uptake of buprenorphine after buccal administration in cats
Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia, 2002Administration of drugs to cats can be challenging and simple but effective techniques would be attractive to the owners. The purpose of this study was to compare the pharmacokinetics of buprenorphine (B) after buccal administration, and compare these to data previously collected from the same colony of cats after IV and IM injection.
