Herniation of the buccal fat pad

Traumatic herniation of the buccal fat pad into the oral cavity is an unusual occurrence only seen in children, hence often unrecognized. A case in a 2¾-year old girl seen three days after injury is reported to demonstrate the value of early recognition and treatment.
