Influence of residents on the development of a marine soft-bottom community

open access: yes, 1984
Field experiments in a Maine estuary were designed to follow community development in newly exposed sediment to determine if resident infauna affect the settlement and survivorship of colonizing infauna and thereby effect changes in community structure ...

Vibrational Exfoliation of 2D Materials

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Vibrational energy folds, fractures and exfoliates atomically and molecularly thin materials. Combining experimentation and computational methods, this unique vibrational synthesis pathway is revealed. This process overcomes barriers of existing approaches by processing 1000 g/L dispersions without loss in yield.

Effect of hemlock death on stream and riparian ecosystems.

open access: yes, 2011
In anticipation of death of hemlock (Tsuga canadensis and T. caroliniana) resulting from the spread of the Hemlock Wolly Adelgid (Adelges tsugae), we are initiating various background studies in sites of high hemlock density and reference sites with no ...

Rounded Monodisperse Fluorescent Nanodiamonds

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Nanodiamond (ND) shape control using rapid molten‐nitrate etching is studied as a scale‐up method for monodispersed rounded particles. Optimal etching condition (567°C for 6 min) yields NDs with atomically stepped surfaces and reduced sp2 content. Compared to angular control, rounded NDs exhibit an increased proportion of luminescent particles (66% vs.

Potential for Reducing Emissions by Regulating O2, CO, and H2O in the Recirculation Gas in Iron Ore Sintering

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study investigates the potential for reducing emissions during the sintering process by selectively adjusting the O2, CO, and H2O content in the recirculation gas. Adjusting these components positively affects the sintering process, enabling the coke breeze content in the sinter mixture to be reduced.

Effectiveness of using roller-bit buckets to minimize ground vibration generation in bored piling

open access: yes, 2019
Ground vibration induced during the construction work becomes annoying for the neighboring community and eventually a great headache for the project management team due to continues complaints from the community.

Effects of Tributyltin Chloride on Human Neuronal Differentiation and Mice Brain Development

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT According to the developmental origins of health and disease hypothesis, perinatal exposure to an environmental toxicant during the development of the nervous system could cause a permanent cellular modification that may promote the appearance of neurodegenerative diseases at an older age.
