To buckle or not to buckle [PDF]
Epithelial layers under compression avoid buckling by active contraction, but only up to a well-defined threshold at 35% strain, beyond which buckling occurs.

Buckling and Post-Buckling of a Pumpkin Balloon
51st AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference
18th AIAA/ASME/AHS Adaptive Structures Conference
12th, 2010Pumpkin shaped balloon has been playing an important role in many space science explorations. This paper presents a computational study of buckling and post-buckling behavior of a 10 m diameter, 145 lobe pumpkin balloon, with lobes of approximately uniform radius. The ABAQUS commercial finite-element package is used.

Do wrist buckle fractures' in children need follow up? Buckle fractures' follow up.
Journal of pediatric orthopedics. Part B, 2019Buckle or torus fractures in the distal forearm are characterized by a bulging of the cortical bone. They are a frequent reason for consultation in pediatric emergencies.

Shape memory polymers (SMPs) have attracted tremendous research interest since their discovery. However, most advances in research of SMPs are based on molecular designs, i.e., "bottom-up" strategies.
