Analytical Study of Lateral Buckling of Pipelines with Initial Imperfection Based on Fixed-Fixed Beam Model

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
The beam analysis model and the initial imperfection are predominant factors in analyzing the lateral buckling behavior of submarine pipelines under high temperature.

Buckling Analysis and Section Optimum for Square Thin-Wall CFST Columns Sealed by Self-Tapping Screws

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2019
Two columns of thin-walled concrete-filled steel tubes (CFSTs), in which tube seams are connected by self-tapping screws, are axial compression tested and FEM simulated; the influence of local buckling on the column compression bearing capacity is ...

Estimation of stresses and displacements of a rectangular plate after compression buckling based on effective width theory by Karman

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2019
In this paper, the equations of in-plane and out-of-plane displacements, in-plane stress distributions, and Mises stress of the rectangular plate after buckling are composed using the well-known buckling deflection shape, based on the plane stress state ...

Buckling of Viscous Filaments of a Fluid under Compression Stresses [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2012
We study the compression of viscous filaments at constant velocity. If slender enough, the filament bends, a viscous analogue of Euler elastic buckling. We measure the characteristic time of this viscous buckling and discuss the link with the elastic critical compression.

Influence of Residual Stresses on the Buckling of Plates

open access: yesJournal of Zosen Kiokai, 1960
Influence of residual stresses on the elastic buckling of plates is studied in this paper. As a pilot research, theorctical as well as experimental investigations were carried out for square plates welded on the center line. Fairly good agreement between theory and experiment was obtained.

From Geometry to Function: Programmable Mechanical Response in 3D‐Printed Adipose‐Inspired Soft Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven design of soft cellular metamaterials is systematically investigated by combining experiments, finite element modeling, and statistical prediction. The study quantifies how unit cell geometry and material properties govern stiffness, instability, densification, and energy absorption.

Two‐Photon Grayscale Lithography (2GL) of High Mechanical and Optical Quality 3D Silica Glass Microstructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two‐photon grayscale lithography (2GL) enables high‐speed and precise 3D printing of thermolyzed silica glass microstructures with optical‐grade surface quality, high quality factors, and mechanical strength utilizing a custom‐made pre‐glass resist based on polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) modified with a high‐sensitivity Norrish type II ...

Cellular Responses to Mechanical Cues Across Scales: From Fundamental Insights to Translational Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines how cellular behavior is regulated by mechanical cues transmitted through soft biomaterials, from single‐cell mechanosensing to tissue‐level adaptation. It highlights why physiological relevance, rather than model complexity alone, is critical for translational mechanobiology and introduces a scoring framework linking material ...

Elastic Critical Buckling Coefficients for Skew Plates of Steel Structures under Biaxial Normal Stress

open access: yesBuildings
In steel structures, skew thin steel plates serve as panel zones in structures spanning large spaces (e.g., warehouses and gymnasiums). Considerable research has been conducted on the shear buckling of panels due to seismic loads acting on a structure ...
