Pollinator community and generalisation of pollinator spectra changes with plant niche width and local dominance

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 37, Issue 11, Page 2967-2976, November 2023., 2023
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Floral traits are assumed to be the main determinants of plant's pollinator spectrum, yet a majority of temperate plant species possess traits allowing to a certain degree of generalisation of their pollinator spectrum.

Response of habitat quality to mixed severity disturbance regime in Norway spruce forests

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 60, Issue 7, Page 1352-1363, July 2023., 2023
Our results demonstrate that currently intensifying natural disturbance regime can consequently result in a lower habitat heterogeneity. In managed spruce forests after natural disturbances, we recommend at least the partial retention of biological legacies to preserve habitat heterogeneity and to avoid uniform and dense plantations resulting in a ...

Genetic polymorphisms related to muscular strength and flexibility are associated with artistic gymnastic performance in the Japanese population

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Sport Science, Volume 23, Issue 6, Page 955-963, June 2023., 2023
ABSTRACT This study aimed to examine how genetic polymorphisms related to muscular strength and flexibility influence artistic gymnastic performance in an attempt to identify a novel polymorphism associated with flexibility. In study 1, the passive straight‐leg‐raise (PSLR) score and aromatase gene CYP19A1 rs936306 polymorphism, a key enzyme for ...

Plant–soil feedbacks in a diverse grassland: Soil remembers, but not too much

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 111, Issue 6, Page 1203-1217, June 2023., 2023
The authors showed that plant‐induced soil legacies of a dominant species can be altered by legacies of co‐occurring plants, complicating plant–soil feedbacks in diverse communities. Despite the detectable legacy effects on final plant biomass, in the short term, plant growth responds more strongly to the levels of available nutrients.

Enhancing the capability of Klebsiella pneumoniae to produce 1, 3‐propanediol by overexpression and regulation through CRISPR‐dCas9

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 15, Issue 7, Page 2112-2125, July 2022., 2022
The 1,3‐PDO production was improved in K. pneumoniae by overexpressing the key gene and attenuating by‐product synthesis in the CRISPR‐dCas9 system. This work is efficient and simple, and such a strategy may be useful to be applied to modification of other strains to produce valuable chemicals.

Historical approach to evaluating productive cultural landscapes: A case study of Japanese vineyard landscapes

open access: yesJAPAN ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW, Volume 5, Issue 1, Page 32-43, January 2022., 2022
We analyze the historical development and land‐use of Katsunuma and other areas in Japan and discuss on an approach for evaluating them. As a result, the characteristics of location, land‐use and basic industry before forming vineyard landscape are key points to evaluate the meanings of present landscapes. It is a way of interpreting the landscape that
