A New Buffer Cache Design Exploiting Both Temporal and Content Localities

2010 IEEE 30th International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems, 2010
This paper presents a Least Popularly Used buffer cache algorithm to exploit both temporal locality and content locality of I/O requests. Popular data blocks are selected as reference blocks that are not only accessed frequently but also identical or similar in content to other blocks that are being accessed.

Acid content and buffer-capacity: a charge-balance perspective

Scandinavian Journal of Clinical and Laboratory Investigation, 2022
Rational treatment and thorough diagnostic classification of acid-base disorders requires quantitative understanding of the mechanisms that generate and dissipate loads of acid and base. A natural precondition for this tallying is the ability to quantify the acid content in any specified fluid.

Polyphosphate buffering by biomass with different phosphorus contents

Water Research, 2006
Polyphosphate buffering is a novel application of enhanced biological phosphorus (P) removal (EBPR) for P-deficient wastewaters with influent organic load variability. This study investigated the effect of biomass P content on polyphosphate buffering using a membrane bioreactor (MBR) and conventional bioreactor (CBR).

Buffering the stomach content enhances the absorption of diflunisal in man

Biopharmaceutics & Drug Disposition, 1989
AbstractDiflunisal, a lipophilic salicylate, is absorbed more slowly in healthy volunteers than aspirin. In this paper we report on attempts to influence diflunisal absorption by buffering the gastric milieu. Sodium bicarbonate given together and 30 min after diflunisal tablets significantly (p < 0·05) shortened the time to reach peak plasma ...

Contention-Aware Resource Scheduling for Burst Buffer Systems

Proceedings of the 47th International Conference on Parallel Processing Companion, 2018
Many scientific applications in critical areas are becoming more and more data-intensive. As the data volume continues to grow, the data movement between storage and compute nodes has turned into a crucial performance bottleneck for many data-intensive applications. Burst buffer provides a promising solution for these applications by absorbing bursty I/

Influence of buffer layers on the In-content of GaInN layers

Journal of Crystal Growth, 1998
Abstract In this work we have studied the influence of different buffer layers on the composition of GaInN layers grown by LP-MOVPE. We obtained the indium-content in these layers by XRD-measurements of the symmetrical reflex (0 0 2) and asymmetrical reflexes, for example (1 0 5).

Content and buffer aware scheduling for video delivery over LTE

Proceedings of the 2013 workshop on Student workhop, 2013
We propose a content and buffer aware Long Term Evolution (LTE) downlink scheduler for allocating radio resources to multiple users requesting Scalable Video Coding (SVC) encoded videos from a server. The scheduler adaptively controls the video quality by assigning physical resource blocks (PRBs) to the users based on the requested video type, device ...
