Variance of buffer contents and delay in ATM queues

A discrete-time infinite-capacity queue with a finite number of independent heterogeneous traffic sources is studied. The sources are modelled as on/off-sources with geometric off-periods and on-periods having a general distribution. The authors present a technique to derive closed-form expressions for the variances of the buffer contents and the delay.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
