Constructing optical buffers with switches and fiber delay lines

open access: closed2009 15th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications, 2009
Designing optical buffer is still challenge for supporting all optical packet switching. The current practice is to emulate the optical buffer functions through a combination of switch and fiber delay lines (SDL). In this paper we introduce the recent progress on this line, in particular, the SDL-based emulation of optical queues, connectors and ...

All-optical erasable storage buffer based on parametric nonlinearity in fiber

open access: closedOFC 2001. Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibit. Technical Digest Postconference Edition (IEEE Cat. 01CH37171), 2001
We present an erasable all-optical buffer based on parametric gain and cross-phase modulation loading. The buffer is erased by employing a loop-mirror as a switch. We demonstrate storage of 1Gb/s packets for 1 ms.

Fast curing primary buffer coatings for high strength optical fibers

open access: closedJournal of Lightwave Technology, 1986
UV-curable polyetherurethane acrylates and poly- (dimethyl-co-methylphenyl siloxane) acrylates have been investigated for the primary buffer coating of optical fibers. Curing behavior, Emodulus, glass transition temperature and refractive index have been studied in relation to the molecular structure of both acrylate types.

Influence of the water blocking buffer gel on the optical fiber in a cable

open access: closedSPIE Proceedings, 2001
The hydrophobic gel freezing influence on the optical fiber cable properties discussed. Is shown, that the locally inhomogeneous gel filling material freezing can cause distributed defects in fiber communication systems.
