Fiber delay lines optical buffer for ATM photonic switching applications
An optical buffer shift register based on a set of fiber delay lines is presented, with the goal of providing cell storage and queuing in asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) photonic switches. The concept of multiwavelength cell buffering is adopted, to realize a shared buffer with a storage capacity equivalent to a set of shift registers.

T-WAS and T-XAS algorithms for fiber-loop optical buffers
Optical Switching and Networking, 2020Abstract In optical packet/burst switched networks fiber loops provide a viable and compact means of contention resolution. For fixed size packets it is known that a basic void-avoiding schedule (VAS) can vastly outperform a more classical pre-reservation algorithm as FCFS.

Fiber loop optical buffers enable data storage for discrete time intervals and therefore appear suitable for applications in optical asynchronous transfer mode (OATM)-based networks where data are transmitted in cells of fixed length. In this paper, the feasibility and the limitations of optical data storage in a fiber loop optical buffer are studied ...

Erasable fiber loop optical buffer
Fifth Asia-Pacific Conference on ... and Fourth Optoelectronics and Communications Conference on Communications,, 1999Optical buffers are important components of an optical switch in a high-speed optical network. We propose a model of a fiber loop buffer, which incorporates a semiconductor laser amplifier (SLA) as a nonlinear element controlled by an optical control signal.

Strain Measurement in Tight Buffer Cabled Optical Fiber
2021We have experimentally carried out a comparative study of strain in a tight buffer cable with that of a loose fiber using Brillouin Optical Time Domain Analysis (BOTDA). The Brillouin frequency shift was measured to be 300 MHz, which corresponds to the strain of 6000 μ-strain appearing on the fiber in tight buffer cable, with respect to the loose fiber.

Analysis of erasable fiber loop optical buffer
Optics Communications, 1999In this paper, we propose a model of a fiber loop buffer, which incorporates a semiconductor laser amplifier (SLA) as nonlinear element controlled by an optical control signal. The impact of the accumulated and amplified spontaneous emission noise of the SLA and data pattern dependent gain saturation effect in the SLA on the properties of the buffer is

Asynchronous phase-modulated optical fiber-ring buffer
Optics Letters, 1998We investigate the dynamics of a 5-Gbit/s packet of ones and zeros loaded into a 0.5-kbit, phase-modulated optical fiber-ring buffer. A new mode of operation is explored in which the cavity length of the buffer is slightly detuned from the frequency driving the phase modulator.

Optical Fiber Buffer for High‐Performance Broadband Switching
European Transactions on Telecommunications, 1993AbstractThis paper presents an optical buffer shift register based on a set of fiber delay lines electrically‐controlled, to provide cell storage and queueing capabilities in high‐performance broadband switches satisfying ATM service requirements. The concept of multi‐wavelength cell buffering is adopted, to realise a partially shared buffer with a ...
