Wavelength dependence of bending loss in monomode optical fibers: effect of the fiber buffer coating

Optics Letters, 1990
The bend-induced optical loss in a monomode fiber has been studied as a continuous function of wavelength in the range 1.2-1.6 microm. The loss was observed to be an oscillatory function of wavelength. These observations were explained by using a model based on interference between the guided core mode in the fiber and a "whispering gallery" mode ...

Efficient Designs of Optical LIFO Buffer with Switches and Fiber Delay Lines

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 2011
The lack of optical buffer is still one of the main problems that hinder the development of all optical networks. Current works on this topic mainly focus on the emulation of optical buffers based on a combination of fiber delay line (FDL) and switch. These works have demonstrated the feasibility of FDL-based emulation for many kinds of optical buffers,

Effect of buffer coating on static fatigue of optical fibers in bending

Optical Fiber Communication, 1987
An important concern in achieving long service lifetime of optical fibers, particularly in adverse environments, is their susceptibility to mechanical failure by static fatigue. This phenomenon of delayed fracture is believed to be caused by the growth over time of microscopic surface flaws into larger critical flaws.

Effect of buffer materials on thermal imprint on plastic optical fiber

Microsystem Technologies, 2012
We are advancing the development of a smart fiber using a plastic optical fiber (POF) as a fibrous substrate with micro-electro-mechanical-systems (MEMS) patterned on its surface. We employed hot embossing and thermal nanoimprinting techniques for patterning on the surface of POF, although, no work has so far been reported on the molding characteristic

Fiber optic loop buffer switch incorporating 3R regeneration

Optical and Quantum Electronics, 2011
In this paper, an all-optical regenerator based, photonic packet switch architecture, which consists of fiber loop for the storage of the contending packets, is proposed. In the loop buffer, the available buffer space may not be fully utilized due to the re-circulation limit (maximum number of re-circulations that data can take before it can be ...

Fast Light in Optical Fiber for Trap-Door Data Buffering

Advances in Optical Sciences Congress, 2009
Constraints encountered in data-buffering via slow light are circumvented by using a trap-door technique based on fast light. We will describe the model and our experimental efforts to realize this buffer using Brillouin gain in optical fiber. Article not Available.

Buffering effect of fiber coating and its influence on the proof test load in optical fibers

Applied Optics, 1990
The tensile force experienced by a coated glass fiber during proof testing is applied to the coating and, therefore, may be reduced because of the buffering effect of the coating. In this study such an effect is evaluated on the basis of an analytical stress model.

Fabrication of fiber optic Bragg gratings: effect of ultraviolet light absorption by the fiber buffer

SPIE Proceedings, 2000
Fiber-optic Bragg gratings are fabricated in hydrogen-loaded communications-grade optical fibers using 244 nm continuous wave light. The fiber-buffer is only partially stripped to allow the ultraviolet grating writing beam to enter the fiber. This light is completely absorbed by the buffer behind the fiber. The absorption of ultraviolet light by the

Single-photon buffer at a telecommunication wavelength using a fiber-optic switch

2017 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Pacific Rim (CLEO-PR), 2017
We demonstrated an efficient fiber-optic single-photon buffer (SPB) at 1550 nm. The SPB can control and give discrete time delays to a single-photon. Moreover the SPB is passively polarization-stable, and consequently the polarization-based quantum state of light can be maintained.

Simulation of Fiber-Optic Buffer Loop Memory with All-Optical 2R Regeneration

Optical Memory and Neural Networks, 2020
Structure of the fiber-optic recirculating loop memory with periodic 2R-regeneration of information flow in the optical range is designed. The modified optical fiber loop mirror for 2R-regeneration of wavelength division multiplexed return-to-zero signals is proposed.
