Influence of pounding buffer zone for mitigation of seismic response of curved bridges
, 2021It is well-known that seismic pounding is detrimental to curved bridges since it can not only amplify the global displacement demands of the bridge deck but also cause stress concentration and localized damage to the bridge components like abutment ...

Comparative analysis of areas with buffer zones vs areas without buffer zones
2021There has been limited research conducted to understand the impact that anti-abortion protestors have on women seeking abortion - though previous researchers have shown that anti-abortion protestors do have a negative impact on women seeking abortion.

Static structural behavior of geogrid reinforced soil retaining walls with a deformation buffer zone
Geotextiles and Geomembranes, 2020To understand the structural behavior of geogrid reinforced soil retaining walls (GRSW) with a deformation buffer zone (DBZ) under static loads, the model tests and the numerical simulations were conducted to obtain the wall face horizontal displacement,

Measurements of personal space, the area immediately surrounding an individual, demonstrate its reality and its function as a bodybuffer zone in interpersonal transactions. The idea of personal space entered behavioral science with ethologic studies of territoriality.1,2Subsequently, anthropologists noted that human spatial use was an important ...

This article uses a multiscale approach for assessing landscape changes in one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots in Brazil, the Rio Doce State Park (PERD). In this article, we assess land use changes over a 30 year period. Our results show that, while

Routing with transmission buffer zones in MANETs
2009 IEEE International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks & Workshops, 2009Dealing with link breaks in MANETs is a challenge for the routing protocol. This paper proposes a mechanism to reduce the negative impact of link breaks on the routing. The transmission area of a node is divided into a safe zone close to the node and an unsafe zone (i.e. buffer zone) near the end of the transmission range.
