To buffer or not to buffer, that is the question
Journal of Chemical Education, 1985Question involves the preparation of a buffer solution by a chemical reaction but does not have the resultant solution act as a buffer.

DNA and Buffers: Are There Any Noninteracting, Neutral pH Buffers?
Analytical Biochemistry, 2000The interaction of DNA with various neutral pH, amine-based buffers has been analyzed by free solution capillary electrophoresis, using a mixture of a plasmid-sized DNA molecule and a small DNA oligonucleotide as the reporter system. The two DNAs migrate as separate, nearly Gaussian-shaped peaks in 20-80 mM TAE (TAE, Tris-acetate-EDTA; Tris, tris ...

OUR conceptualization and operating knowledge of buffers and buffer mechanisms must, of necessity, have as their basis notions concerning the nature of acids and bases. The concurrent influence of two major theories of acids and bases, those of Arrhenius and Bronsted-Lowry, has resulted in much confusion concerning terminology and definitions in the ...

The Hit Buffer is part of the Silicon Vertex Tracker [1], a trigger processor dedicated to the reconstruction of particle trajectories in the Silicon Vertex Detector [2] and the Central Tracking Chamber of the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The Hit Buffer is a high speed data-traffic node, where thousands of words are received in arbitrary order and ...

In the quantification of buffering the distinct roles of bicarbonate and of other buffers must be taken into account. The determination of the total non-bicarbonate buffer value, betaa, in intact tissues is complicated by active pH regulation and by heterogeneity of cytoplasm with respect to betaa, while heterogeneity with respect to pH in vivo could ...

Partnerships Buffer and Strengthen
Health & Social Work, 1995Recently I reviewed course outlines for a new graduate program in nursing. What pleased me most was the emphasis my colleagues had given to partnerships with families, with communities, and with other professionals. The next day I got a telephone call from a hospital social work director upset at the prospect of losing 15 positions in her department to

Each biological system possesses a widely unrecognized buffer system to maintain acid-base balance to a specific pH. Our lives are dependent on the functioning of buffer systems. A buffer system is a solution that resists a change in pH when acids or bases are added. The skin possesses a fairly high buffer capacity, which is determined by the amount of

Replacing Store Buffers by Load Buffers in TSO
2018We consider the weak memory model of Total Store Ordering (TSO). In the classical definition of TSO, an unbounded buffer is inserted between each process and the shared memory. The buffers contains pending store operations of the processes. We introduce a new model where we replace the store buffers by load buffers.
