Effects of hexavalent chromium on intestinal histology and microbiota in Bufo gargarizans tadpoles.
Chemosphere, 2019Chromium is detrimental heavy metal pollutants and can enter and affect aquatic organisms. In our experiment, B. gargarizans embryos were chronically exposed in different concentrations of Cr (VI) (0, 13, 104, and 416 μg Cr6+ L-1) until reached Gosner ...

The effect of inundation on hibernating Bufo bufo and Bufo calamita
Amphibia-Reptilia, 1997Abstract Inundation effects on terrestrially hibernating Bufo bufo and B. calamita are reported. Mortality caused by experimental inundation of seminatural hibernation sites was high in B. calamita and very low in B. bufo. In a floodplain eight telemetrically monitored B.

Morphogenesis of the Pancreas of Bufo bufo during Metamorphosis
General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1995Histology and immunohistochemical reactivity (IR) toward insulin, glucagon, somatostatin14, and pancreatic polypeptide were investigated in the pancreas and in other tissues of Bufo bufo during metamorphosis. Insulin IR cells appeared at the very beginning of metamorphosis among exocrine pancreatic cells rich in yolk platelets, not completely arranged ...

Effects of mammalian gonadotropins on ovary in the toad Bufo bufo bufo (L.)
General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1971Abstract Daily injections of 0.05–0.1 mg FSH (NIH-FSH-S) consistently stimulated growth of previtellogenic oocytes in hypophysectomized as well as normal toads. The initiation of secondary growth in previtellogenic oocytes persisted throughout the period of treatment, up to 3 months, but the rate of growth was low.

Ultrastructure of the paraphysis in Bufo bufo larvae
Journal of Morphology, 1994AbstractA study of the ultrastructure and function of the paraphysis in Bufo bufo larvae was carried out. The structure is a tubular‐ramified gland made up of numerous tubules with monolayered epithelial walls surrounded by connective tissue and sinusoids.

Permethylation analyses of the spawn material of three toad (Bufo) species allow the conclusion that the serologically determinant group in Bufo bufo spawn is identical with that found in human and hog blood-group A substances (i.e. GalNAc(alpha1,3) [Fuc(alpha1,2)] Gal -), and the serologically determinant group in Bufo viridis and Bufo calamita spawn ...

Behavior of toads, Bufo bufo, in a dynamic environment
Journal of Vestibular Research, 2010Susceptibility to motion sickness was tested by exposing free moving toads to rotation of a stimulator modeled after an amusement park Ferris Wheel. The stimulator provided a gentle stimulation of frequency 0.25 Hz and centrifugal acceleration 0.143 g during 120 min or more without external visual cues.

Glyoxalases activity during Bufo bufo embryo development
Mechanisms of Ageing and Development, 1998In this work we have investigated the expression of glyoxalase I (GLO I) and glyoxalase II (GLO II) activities during Bufo bufo embryo development and in some tissues of both male and female adult animals, in order to study how they correlate with cell proliferation and differentiation.

Regulation of thyroid function in the toad Bufo bufo
General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1964Abstract After extirpation of the pars distalis of the hypophysis in the toad, I 131 uptake of thyr thyroid gland declined to about 40% of the normal value. Injection of a macerate of the pars distalis into the operated toads restored the iodine uptake to control values.
