Retinal projections in the cane toad, Bufo marinus.
Brain, behavior and evolution, 1992The location and extent of retinorecipient areas in the cane toad, Bufo marinus, were established by anterograde transport of cobaltic-lysine complex from the cut optic nerve. Most of the labeled optic axons travelled in the marginal optic tract, while others were in the axial optic tract, and/or the basal optic tract. Retinal projections terminated in

Cytochemistry of the Blood Basophil of Bufo marinus
Journal of Herpetology, 1988The morphology and cytochemistry of the blood basophil of Bufo marinus are characterized, and compared and contrasted to the basophil from several other amphibians and with the mammalian basophil. The basophil of B. marinus contains at least one type of mucopolysaccharide and an acid mu- copolysaccharide, possibly heparin, within the cytoplasmic ...

Physiological significance of behavioral hypothermia in hypoxic toads (Bufo marinus)
Journal of Experimental Biology, 1991We tested the hypotheses that hypoxic toads (Bufo marinus) in a thermal gradient would select a lower than normal temperature and that this behavioral response would be beneficial. Under normoxic conditions, selected body temperature was 24.2 +/− 3.6 degrees C.

Clinostomum attenuatum (Digenea) from the Eye of Bufo marinus
The Journal of Parasitology, 1991Two specimens of the cane toad, Bufo marinus, were found with single worm infestations of the eye. One worm was excysted in the eye chamber, the other still encysted in the choroid layer; both worms were identified as Clinostomum attenuatum. This finding is both a new host record and a new site of development for this amphibian parasite.
