Numerical Simulation of Wind-Driven Rain Based on the Eulerian Model

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2022
The wind-driven rain model based on the Eulerian multiphase model is the most widely used in engineering applications of green buildings. In this study, a real-world case of wind-driven rain was simulated using a wind-driven rain solver based on the ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Integral Design method for conceptual building design

open access: yes, 2009
Building design processes show a sequential involvement of different responsible disciplines, where architects traditionally make designs while engineers optimize and make those designs buildable.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Topological optimization methods in the design of metal structures of buildings [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
This paper discusses the use of topological optimization methods as an intermediate step in the design of metal building frames in the development of the geometry of volume structures, dimensions and thicknesses of individual elements and groups of ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Environmental quality, functional control, and social design as determinants of perceived comfort and psychological well-being among older residents in Chinese continuing care retirement communities

open access: yesBMC Geriatrics
This study investigates how the design of environmental quality, functional control, and social design affects the psychological well-being of older people living in Chinese Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs).

The Cost-Optimal Analysis of a Multistory Building in the Mediterranean Area: Financial and Macroeconomic Projections

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Cost-optimal analysis was pointed out in the 2010/31 European Directive as a tool to evaluate the achievable building energy performance levels as a function of the corresponding costs.
