Engineering an Optogenetic pH‐Modulator in Bacteria

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cells in many naturally occurring organisms routinely cooperate to control their extracellular pH in a dynamic and reversible manner, but this capability has been underexplored in synthetic biology. Here, we sought to engineer a microbial system that switches between two states —high and low extracellular pH— with minimal human intervention ...

The building stones of Pienza (Tuscany, Italy)

open access: yes
Pienza, a fifteenth-century town in Tuscany, Italy, is renowned as a prime example of Renaissance urbanism. Constructed by Pope Pius II, the town was designed by the esteemed architect Bernardo Rossellino to embody an ideal city centered around a grand ...

A comparison between porosities measured from specimens with regular and irregular shapes and their accuracy in predicting the strength characteristics of carbonate building stones

open access: yes
Porosity is among the basic physical parameters widely used in evaluating the strength characteristics of building stones. Based on the geometric shape of the stone specimen, there are two procedures for determining the porosity: 1) measurements on ...

Secreted Nonstructural Protein 3 is a Pathogenic Determinant of Orbivirus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers a conserved PIP2‐dependent secretory pathway of orbivirus NS3 that induces vascular leakage. Pharmacological disruption of PIP2‐NS3 interaction significantly reduces viral pathogenicity and provides protective efficacy in murine models, establishing PIP2‐mediated NS3 secretion as both a key virulence determinant and a promising ...

Eco concrete stones with TiO2 for atmospheric decontamination

open access: yes, 2009
In the present work the degradation of nitrogen oxides (NOr) by concrete paving stones containing Ti02 is studied. A kinetic model is proposed to describe the photocatalytic reaction of nitric oxide (NO) in a standard flow laminar photoreactor irradiated

Faster and Durable: A Cell‐to‐System Validation of a Low‐Degradation Fast‐Charge Protocol for Li‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A physics‐based framework resolving graphite phase‐separation dynamics establishes a predictive, degradation‐aware fast‐charging methodology for commercial Li‐ion batteries. The resulting model‐informed protocol achieves 20%–80% state‐of‐charge in 14 min while matching the long‐term degradation of a commercial 25‐minute EV strategy.
