A Multifunctional Binder for Current‐Collector‐Free Zn Powder Anodes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
By introducing abundant polar groups as Zn2+ absorption sites and hydrogen bond arrays, a protein structure‐derived binder for ZP anode and iodine cathode is proposed. This design can regulate the Zn2+ flux, benefit the formation of free‐standing electrode, inhibit the side reactions, suppress the shuttle effect of polyiodides, and enable the large ...

The chemical evolution of the Galactic Bulge seen through micro-lensing events

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2012
Galactic bulges are central to understanding galaxy formation and evolution. Here we report on recent studies using micro-lensing events to obtain spectra of high resolution and moderately high signal-to-noise ratios of dwarf stars in the Galactic bulge.

Interaction of Oligonucleotides with Gold Nanoparticles: Factors Beyond Electrostatic and Van‐Der Waals Forces

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The formation of stable clusters of gold nanoparticles with oligonucleotides at different solution conditions is explored. DNA base homogeneity and strand directionality influence the binding with gold nanoparticles leading to interesting clustering behavior that can be relevant for SERS applications.

Structural properties of disk galaxies. II. Intrinsic shape of bulges [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
(Abridged) The structural parameters of a magnitude-limited sample of 148 unbarred S0-Sb galaxies were analyzed to derive the intrinsic shape of their bulges. We developed a new method to derive the intrinsic shape of bulges based on the geometrical relationships between the apparent and intrinsic shapes of bulges and disks.

Nano‐Octahedron Cobalt Oxide Decorated Graphene Nanocomposites for the Selective/Simultaneous Detection of Dopamine

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Nano‐octahedron Co3O4 decorated graphene composite electrode for selective and simultaneous detection of dopamine. The detection limit of 0.09 µM, and linear range from 1 to 500 µM are reported. The synergistic effect of nano octahedron Co3O4 and graphene results in excellent performance of the sensor in terms of selectivity and sensitivity.

The Gaia-ESO Survey: the most metal-poor stars in the Galactic bulge

open access: yes, 2014
We present the first results of the EMBLA survey (Extremely Metal-poor BuLge stars with AAOmega), aimed at finding metal-poor stars in the Milky Way bulge, where the oldest stars should now preferentially reside.

Formation and evolution of bulges [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2007
After presenting three ways of defining a bulge component in disc galaxies, we introduce the various types of bulges, namely the classical bulges, the boxy/peanut bulges and the disc-like bulges. We then discuss three specific topics linked to bulge formation and evolution, namely the coupled time evolution of the bar, buckling and peanut strengths ...

A‐Site Cationic Variation to Expand the Sacrificial Layer AVO3 Family Dissolving in Water

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The visual art depicts atoms dissolving in water, symbolizing the etching of Sr1‐xCaxVO3 thin films. This study demonstrates a new family of water‐soluble materials, expanding the lattice parameter range available for epitaxial growth on sacrificial layers.

The First Detection of Blue Straggler Stars in the Milky Way Bulge

open access: yes, 2011
We report the first detections of Blue Straggler Stars (BSS) in the bulge of the Milky Way galaxy. Proper motions from extensive space-based observations along a single sight-line allow us to separate a sufficiently clean and well-characterized bulge ...

Wearable Electrohydraulic Actuation For Salient Full‐Fingertip Haptic Feedback

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study introduces a wearable soft robotic system that combines a flat and conformable electrohydraulic pump, a mechanically transparent channel, and an ultra‐thin fingertip chamber to provide salient haptic feedback that imitates natural touch experiences.
