The Breeding of Bulinus truncatus in Total Darkness
Journal of Helminthology, 1961Starting with eggs from a natural habitat the authors were able to raise and breed Bulinus truncatus, the snail vector of schistosomiasis haematobia, under conditions of total and continuous darkness and to complete the life-cycle from egg to egg in 70 days. The rearing of a second generation was interrupted by circumstances beyond the authors’ control.

Experimental Infection of Bulinus truncatus with Schistosoma haematobium
The Journal of Parasitology, 1953establishment of the complete life cycle of the parasite under laboratory conditions. An active breeding colony of the suitable snail host must be established to provide a reliable source of snails for exposure to miracidia at regular intervals so as to insure a steady supply of cercariae for animal infections.

Fractions containing these diterpenoids were investigated for their molluscicidal activity against Bulinus truncatus, one of the aquatic snail vectors of schistosomiasis.

Eleven planorbid populations were identified in 1997 in the Agadir province, all living at high altitude (from 340 to 1380 m).
