Bulk viscosity of molecular fluids [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 2018
The bulk viscosity of molecular models of gases and liquids is determined by molecular simulations as a combination of a dilute gas contribution, arising due to the relaxation of internal degrees of freedom, and a configurational contribution, due to the presence of intermolecular interactions.

The bulk viscosity of suspensions [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Rheology, 2007
The bulk viscosity of a suspension is defined analogous to that for a pure fluid as the constant of proportionality relating the deviation of the trace of the macroscopic stress from its equilibrium value to the average rate of expansion. In a suspension the equilibrium macroscopic stress is the sum of the thermodynamic pressure of the fluid and the ...

Bulk viscosity of liquid noble gases [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 2020
An equation of state for the bulk viscosity of liquid noble gases is proposed. On the basis of dedicated equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations, a multi-mode relaxation ansatz is used to obtain precise bulk viscosity data over a wide range of liquid states.

Bulk Viscosity of a Pion Gas

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2011
We calculate the bulk viscosity of a pion gas at low energies within the kinetic theory approach and show the importance of dealing properly with the zero modes of this transport coefficient.

Remarks on Cosmological Bulk Viscosity in Different Epochs [PDF]

open access: yesSymmetry, 2020
The intention of this paper is mainly two-fold. First, we point out a striking numerical agreement between the bulk viscosity in the lepton era calculated by Husdal (2016) and our own calculations of the present-day bulk viscosity when the functional form is ζ ∼ ρ . From a phenomenological point of view, we thus seem to have an ansatz for the

Bulk viscosity, interaction and the viability of phantom solutions

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2017
We study the dynamics of a bulk viscosity model in the Eckart approach for a spatially flat Friedmann–Robertson–Walker (FRW) Universe. We have included radiation and dark energy, assumed as perfect fluids, and dark matter treated as an imperfect fluid ...

On Bulk Viscosity and Moduli Decay [PDF]

open access: yesProgress of Theoretical Physics Supplement, 2010
This pedagogically intended lecture, one of four under the header "Basics of thermal QCD", reviews an interesting relationship, originally pointed out by Bodeker, that exists between the bulk viscosity of Yang-Mills theory (of possible relevance to the hydrodynamics of heavy ion collision experiments) and the decay rate of scalar fields coupled very ...

Bulk viscosity of high-temperature QCD [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2006
We compute the bulk viscosity zeta of high-temperature QCD to leading order in powers of the running coupling alpha_s(T). We find that it is negligible compared to shear viscosity eta for any alpha_s that might reasonably be considered small. The physics of bulk viscosity in QCD is a bit different than in scalar phi^4 theory.

MURCA driven bulk viscosity in neutrino trapped baryonic matter

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields
We examine bulk viscosity, taking into account trapped neutrinos in baryonic matter, in the context of binary neutron star mergers. Following the merging event, the binary star can yield a remnant compact object with densities up to 5 nuclear saturation ...
