Bullet embolism to the pulmonary artery [PDF]

open access: bronzeInteractive Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, 2004
Bullet embolization of the pulmonary artery is a very rare event. When a bullet enters the pulmonary vasculature, it may cause haemorrhage, thrombosis, sepsis, intimal erosion and eventually occlusion. Locating the bullet with several imaging methods is important to confirm the diagnosis.

Percutaneous Retrieval of Venous Bullet Embolism

open access: yesJournal of Endovascular Therapy, 2021
Purpose Bullet fragment embolization is a rare but potentially fatal complication of traumatic gunshot injury. Herein, we present a case of a patient who demonstrated migration of a bullet fragment from the lower chest into the left common iliac vein. Gunshot Wounds Causing Distal Arterial Bullet Embolisms.

open access: greenBulletin of emergency and trauma, 2022
We report two cases involving small-caliber gunshot wounds to the chest with embolization of the bullet which complete occluding arterial circulation into the left lower extremity. A 30-years-old and 19-years-old men suffered gunshots wound to the thorax and abdomen with subsequent arterial embolisms into their left legs.

Retrograde venous bullet embolism into renal vein [PDF]

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Surgery, 2020
The unpredictable nature and behaviour of bullet emboli can pose unique diagnostic and management challenges, related to the absence of exit wounds or variable trajectories. However, embolisation into the vascular system is an extremely unusual occurrence, with fewer than 200 such cases described since 1900.
