Values versus Tactics: The Liberal Democrat Predicament

open access: yesThe Political Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract The Liberal Democrats emerged from the 2024 election with their largest parliamentary party since 1923. The 2026 elections saw further progress in English local government and Scottish parliamentary elections, with support consolidating in areas of strength.

The conservation of bumble bees [PDF]

open access: yesBee World, 2003
The approximately 250 known species of bumble bee (genus Bombus) are found predominantly in temperate regions of the northern hemisphere. This region also contains much of the world's human population and the most intensive agricultural regions. Probably as a result of this, many bumble bees appear to be undergoing dramatic declines in range.

125 years of exploration and research at Gough's Cave (Somerset, UK) 125 ans d'exploration et de recherches à Gough's Cave (Somerset, Royaume‐Uni)

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, EarlyView.
Our understanding of the recolonization of northwest Europe in the period leading up to the Lateglacial Interstadial relies heavily on discoveries from Gough's Cave (Somerset, UK). Gough's Cave is the richest Late Upper Palaeolithic site in the British Isles, yielding an exceptional array of human remains, stone and organic artefacts, and butchered ...

Integration Through Rights: Towards an Associational Paradigm

open access: yesThe Modern Law Review, EarlyView.
Integration policies in the EU and the UK have over the past two decades increasingly emphasised duties and constraints for migrants. This article challenges the duty‐based model and proposes an alternative legal conception: ‘integration through rights’, with associational rights taking a central role.

Layered abandonment: The moral interpretation of suffering in extreme confinement

open access: yesCriminology, EarlyView.
Abstract Loss and rejection are central to prison life, yet how they crystallize into a more general sense of abandonment remains under‐theorized. Drawing on 64 interviews with men held in prolonged self‐isolation or serving indeterminate forvaring sentences in Denmark, we conceptualize abandonment not simply as hardship but as suffering plus ...

The dual crisis: Climate change simultaneously drives pollinator decline and pest outbreaks

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
Climate change acts as an asymmetric ecological filter, favouring r‐selected pest traits (rapid reproduction, generalism) while disadvantaging K‐selected pollinators. For every 1°C of warming, bee species richness declines ~25% since the 1990s, while pest‐induced crop losses increase by 10%–25%. A network‐centric approach integrating climate‐responsive

Brood care by male bumble bees [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1985
Male Bombus griseocollis (Hymenoptera: Apidae) share in the brood care of nestmates by incubating pupae (usually during the first few days after they emerge as adults). Male posture during incubation of a pupa is identical to that observed for females.

Bumble Bees of Florida

open access: yesEDIS
This is a general guide to field identification, species description, and biology of the five bumble bee species Bombus spp. found in Florida. This guide to bumble bee identification in Florida would also be usable for coastal South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas, but it is not comprehensive for the northern ...

Tachinidae (Diptera) as Floral Visitors and Pollinators in Natural and Managed Systems

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
We review the roles of bristle flies (Tachinidae) as pollinators in natural and managed systems. We find that most tachinid genera visit flowers and that floral‐adapted mouthparts have evolved repeatedly many times in the family. We review patterns of floral specificity and assess the efficacy of tachinids as pollinators with case studies.
