Integrating metabolic scaling and coexistence theories

open access: yesEcology, Volume 106, Issue 8, August 2025.
Abstract Metabolic scaling theory has been pivotal in formalizing the expected energy expenditures across populations as a function of body size. Coexistence theory has provided a mathematization of the environmental conditions compatible with multispecies coexistence.

Shot noise spectroscopy on a semiconductor quantum dot in the elastic and inelastic cotunneling regimes

open access: yes, 2013
We report shot noise spectroscopy on a semiconductor quantum dot in a cotunneling regime. The DC conductance measurements show clear signatures of both elastic and inelastic cotunneling transport inside a Coulomb diamond.

Public Patterns in Private Writing: Computational Insights into Russophone Diaries

open access: yesThe Russian Review, Volume 84, Issue 3, Page 484-501, July 2025.
Abstract Diaries seem to contain almost anything; how could it be otherwise, given the diversity of their authors, the variety of contexts in which they are authored, and the range of reasons for authoring them? But examining diaries en masse, using computationally assisted reading, discloses large‐scale commonalities obscured by the local variance ...

A Continuum From Positive to Negative Interactions Drives Plant Species' Performance in a Diverse Community

open access: yesEcology Letters, Volume 28, Issue 1, January 2025.
We explored the patterns of species performance in a real‐world community, dependent on pairwise and higher‐order interactions with species belonging to the same and other trophic levels (plant, herbivore and pollinator). We found that a continuum from positive to negative direct interactions, common to individuals in one guild, are sufficient to ...

Innovation rather than improvement: a solvable high-dimensional model highlights the limitations of scalar fitness

open access: yes, 2017
Much of our understanding of ecological and evolutionary mechanisms derives from analysis of low-dimensional models: with few interacting species, or few axes defining "fitness".
