Non-wetting phase saturation after drainage from the wetting-phase-filled porous medium

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2015
Understanding and predicting the efficiency of displacement, i.e., the non-wetting phase saturation after drainage, is of great importance in many practical applications.

Modular Control of PEG‐Poly(2‐Oxazoline) Co‐Assembly Enables Tunable Aggregate Properties for Intraocular Pressure Management

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A thermo‐responsive poly(2‐oxazoline)‐based injectable formulation is developed to modulate intraocular pressure (IOP) in both normal and hypotonic eyes. By adjusting the PEG content, the aggregation behavior is finely tuned, enabling IOP elevation without long‐term deposition.

Topology and Material Optimization in Ultra‐Soft Magneto‐Active Structures: Making Advantage of Residual Anisotropies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Residual magnetization induces pronounced mechanical anisotropy in ultra‐soft magnetorheological elastomers, shaping deformation and actuation even without external magnetic fields. This study introduces a computational‐experimental framework integrating magneto‐mechanical coupling into topology optimization for designing soft magnetic actuators with ...

Miniature Soft Robot With Magnetically Reprogrammable Surgical Functions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Miniature soft robots have great prospects to revolutionize minimally invasive treatments. Here we present a miniature soft robot, which can be reprogrammed to perform five surgical functionalities with six‐degrees‐of‐freedom motions. This soft robot can prospectively make minimally invasive surgery considerably safer and painless, and enable ...

Casimir buoyancy [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2005
We study the Casimir force on a single surface immersed in an inhomogeneous medium. Specifically we study the vacuum fluctuations of a scalar field with a spatially varying squared mass, $m^{2}+λΔ(x-a)+V(x)$, where $V$ is a smooth potential and $Δ(x)$ is a unit-area function sharply peaked around $x=0$.
