Summary Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the intensity and effectiveness of 0.75 ml·kg−1 bupivacaine 0.25% with the addition of fentanyl or midazolam for caudal block in children undergoing inguinal herniorrhaphy. Methods: Seventy‐five children were allocated randomly to three groups to receive a caudal block with either 0.25 ...

A comparative study of bupivacaine, bupivacaine with dexmedetomidine and bupivacaine with clonidine in spinal anesthesia for lower abdominal surgery [PDF]
The present clinical comparative study was carried out in 90 patients of ASA GRADE I and II scheduled for lower abdominal surgery. They were divided into three groups of 30 each. The patients in group A received Bupivacaine alone and Patient in group B received Bupivacaine + dexmedetomidine and group c received bupivacaine + clonidine intrathecaly ...

Epidural fentanyl-bupivacaine compared with clonidine-bupivacaine for analgesia in labour
European Journal of Anaesthesiology, 2000Alpha-adrenergic agonists produce pain relief through an opioid independent mechanism and may be alternatives to opioids for combination with local anaesthetics for analgesia during labour. We studied 41 pregnant women. Epidural block was performed with 75 microg clonidine (n = 20) or 50 microg fentanyl (n = 21) combined with 0.125% bupivacaine (10 mL).

Effect of chronic bupivacaine infusion on seizure threshold to bupivacaine
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, 1987Thirty rats were pretreated with a continuous infusion of bupivacaine or placebo. On the fourth day the acute seizure threshold to bupivacaine was determined for both groups. The seizure dose, blood and brain concentration of bupivacaine showed no difference between the groups.
