Sea cucumber, Neostichopus grammatus, density and tank cleaning frequency affect abalone, Haliotis midae, growth in integrated multitrophic aquaculture

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 56, Issue 1, February 2025.
Abstract The integrated multitrophic aquaculture (IMTA) of sea cucumber and abalone has been proposed as a potential bioremediation tool that stimulates increased abalone growth. This study assessed the role of sea cucumber stocking density and frequency of tank cleaning in IMTA on growth, water, and sludge bioremediation.

Network Analysis of Small Ruminant Movements in Uganda: Implications for Control of Transboundary Animal Diseases

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Domestic animals are moved for reasons that are mutually beneficial to the animal and the farmer. Some examples include the need for fresh grazing grounds and watering points, or the need to access livestock markets for income to sustain farmers’ livelihoods.

Generators for the hyperelliptic Torelli group and the kernel of the Burau representation at t = -1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We prove that the hyperelliptic Torelli group is generated by Dehn twists about separating curves that are preserved by the hyperelliptic involution. This verifies a conjecture of Hain. The hyperelliptic Torelli group can be identified with the kernel

The Burau representation and Euclidean cone surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes
This dissertation concerns two subjects that the author explored in his doctoral research: the Burau representation of the braid groups and moduli spaces of Euclidean cone surfaces.

Burau Maps and Twisted Alexander Polynomials

open access: yes, 2018
The Burau representation of the braid group can be used to recover the Alexander polynomial of the closure of a braid. We define twisted Burau maps and use them to compute twisted Alexander polynomials.

Garside-theoretic analysis of Burau representations

open access: yes, 2014
We establish relations between both the classical and the dual Garside structures of the braid group and the Burau representation. Using the classical structure, we formulate a non-vanishing criterion for the Burau representation of the 4-strand braid group.

Density and unitarity of the Burau representation from a non-semisimple TQFT

open access: yes
We study the density of the Burau representation from the perspective of a non-semisimple TQFT at a fourth root of unity. This gives a TQFT construction of Squier's Hermitian form on the Burau representation with possibly mixed signature.
