Redescription of Alloceraea cretacea (Acari: Ixodida) with an additional nymphal fossil added to this species: novel insights into the evolution of the Haematobothrion

open access: yesParasitology
A fossil assigned to the extant ixodid genus Haemaphysalis was previously described from the Late Cretaceous (ca. 99 Ma) Burmese amber. Haemaphysalis (Alloceraea) cretacea was considered the oldest, and only, fossil representative of this genus ...

Amberground serpulid polychaetes on mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber

open access: yesMesozoic
The mid-Cretaceous Burmese (Kachin) amber is renowned for its diverse inclusions and the insights they provide into ancient biodiversity. Several amberground marine animals have been hitherto reported. Here, we document a new amberground discovery: polychaete dwelling tubes, suggesting a coastal environment inhabited by multiple serpulid species.
