Bloodstream infections (BSI) are one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in both civilian and military populations. This paper summarizes recent progress in novel treatment strategies to manage BSI arising from both bacterial and fungal pathogens using molecules, particles, and materials to elicit host‐directed immunity.

Ionic Control of Microstructure and Lubrication in Charged, Physically Cross‐Linked Hydrogels
Here, charged, physically cross‐linked poly(methacrylamide‐co‐methacrylic acid) hydrogels stabilized by a short‐range attractive, long‐range repulsive potential is investigated. This work uncovers how salt addition alters not only swelling, but also the microstructure and dynamics, near‐surface stiffness and charge, and ultimately, its lubricity. Salts

Surviving a burn can dramatically alter a child’s life, yet few studies examined long-term health-related quality of life (HRQL). This study assessed HRQL 5–7 years post-burn in children with mild/intermediate and severe burns and identified associated ...

Radiation exposure and performance of multiple burn LEO-GEO orbit transfer trajectories [PDF]
Many potential strategies exist for the transfer of spacecraft from low Earth orbit (LEO) to geosynchronous (GEO) orbit. One strategy has generally been utilized, that being a single impulsive burn at perigee and a GEO insertion burn at apogee.

Backbone Heterojunction Photocatalysts for Efficient Sacrificial Hydrogen Production
Herein, a ‘single‐component’ organic semiconductor photocatalyst is presented in which a molecular donor is bonded to a polymer acceptor. The resultant material demonstrates exceptional photocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution in aqueous triethylamine with an outstanding external quantum efficiency of 38% at 420 nm.

Reevaluating the Activity of ZIF‐8 Based FeNCs for Electrochemical Ammonia Production
Though receiving much attention, the field of electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction (eNRR) to ammonia is marked by doubts about whether this reaction is possible in aqueous media. This work sheds light on this question for iron single‐atom on N‐doped carbon (FeNC) catalysts—a class of well‐known catalysts that is also worth testing for the sister

SPS-neutralization in tissue samples for efficacy testing of antimicrobial peptides
Background Accurate determination of the efficacy of antimicrobial agents requires neutralization of residual antimicrobial activity in the samples before microbiological assessment of the number of surviving bacteria.
