A reliable, objective, and universal method of assessing burn scars does not exist in today's burn literature. Such a method is necessary to provide a descriptive terminology for the comparison of burn scars and the results of treatment. The method should be applicable to patients both within an institution and between burn centers.

In its original specification, the burn rate model described in Chapter 2.2 only allows for a prediction of moderate fuel variations, like adding hydrogen to methane (see [74]). For a more significant fuel variation like methane, gasoline and ethanol, a recalibration is necessary (see Figures 5.2, 5.3 and 5.4).

The rate of burning of wood cribs
Fire Technology, 1970The authors show how data on the burning rates of wood cribs can be correlated reasonably closely by using a simple empirical formula. The data obtained at the Fire Research Station can also be correlated with other results obtained in the United States.

Burning Rates of Solid Propellants
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1960The burning mechanism of a solid propellant is described in terms of a pyrolysis law, a premixed laminar flame, and nothing more. A quantitatively accurate burning rate formula is derived from the theory. The predicted burning rate pressure dependence agrees with the experimental results for ammonium perchlorate propellants.
