Associations Between Multiple Chemosensory Dysfunction and Cognition

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
Key Points This study supports the association between chemosensory dysfunction and cognition. We introduce methods of assessing trigeminal function with the Medoc TSA‐II thermoprobe. Our results identify an association between subjective trigeminal dysfunction and cognition.

Borosulfates Hosting Se42+ Ions—Crystal Structures, Chemical Bonding, Optical Spectroscopy, and Magnetism

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Apart from (transition) metal (oxo)halides only few hosts stabilize chalcogenide cations in purely oxoanionic coordination environment. Herein, we report on five borosulfates containing the Se42+ ion and characterize the compounds using X‐ray diffraction, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, density functional theory (DFT) calculations along with magnetic

Comparison of rat hypertrophic scar models: Caudal tension model with superior pathological consistency

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
This study compared hypertrophic scar (HS) formation in SD rats at ear, back, and tail sites with or without mechanical tension. The ear model healed spontaneously by day 30. Dorsal full‐thickness excision (1 × 8 cm) produced moderate HS. In contrast, the tail tension model showed the greatest scar thickness, fibroblast density, collagen deposition ...

Modeling Catheter‐Associated Bladder Mucosal Adhesion and Microtrauma Using a Human Urothelial Microtissue Model

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Intermittent catheter use can damage the urinary tract and predispose to infection. We deployed a complex human urothelial model to investigate. Catheter contact induced compressive and shear stress causing umbrella cell disruption, reduced barrier function, inflammation and increased cell adhesion to the catheter surface.
