Understanding and Circumventing Failure Mechanisms in Chalcogenide Optical Phase Change Material Ge2Sb2Se4Te

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 13, Issue 8, March 13, 2025.
Chalcogenide optical PCMs have gathered interest for their potential in compact, non‐volatile optics and photonics. Free‐space PCM metasurfaces require new considerations from phase change memory that need to be addressed for reliable scale‐up. Several failure mechanisms pertaining to free‐space PCM devices and layout methods are isolated to prevent ...

Rapid Electro‐Thermal Micro‐Actuation of Flat Optics Enabled by Laser‐Induced Graphene on Colorless Polyimide Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Laser‐induced graphene (LIG) on a colorless polyimide (CPI) substrate functions as both an electrical heater and a heat spreader, enabling rapid electro‐thermo‐optic actuation. The system achieves reflective beam scanning up to 2 kHz and diffractive beam steering with 0.5‐millidegree resolution and a 0.9 s response time, showcasing LIG‐CPI as a soft ...

Stimulated Raman Scattering with Optical Vortex Beams

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
This study presents exact analytical expressions for stimulated Raman scattering with Laguerre‐Gaussian beams, revealing signal dependence on topological and hyperbolic momentum. The results provide a theoretical foundation for coherent Raman imaging and detecting orbital angular momentum of light via structured light in nonlinear optics.

Functional Optical Fibers with Tailored Side Emission from Modified Rod‐in‐Tube Preforms

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
A modified rod‐in‐tube method enables fabrication of functional optical fibers with tailored light‐diffusing properties. The approach incorporates optically active species at a well‐defined radial position within an otherwise homogeneous fiber core. Using lanthanide ions and noble metal nanoparticles as active species demonstrates wavelength conversion
