Population Genomics Approaches Identify a Cryptic, Emerging Generalist Pest Complex [PDF]
Information about biological traits essential for pest management, such as species identity, diet and movement often require laborious and time‐intensive studies on pest natural history, in both laboratory and field settings.

Cydnidae Pigmentation: A Dermoscopic Case Series
Insects can cause a variety of dermatological problems ranging from asymptomatic cutaneous pigmentation to life threatening anaphylaxis. The pigmentation caused by burrowing bug, is oval to bizarre in shape, brown-black in colour, seen mainly over ...

Population dynamics, vertical distribution and damage characterization of burrower bug in peanut
ABSTRACT: Although the burrower bug (Cyrtomenus mirabilis) is considered a vitalsoil pest in peanut crops, Arachis hypogaea L., in South America, there is little information on its occurrence and damage characterization. This study aimed to evaluate the vertical distribution and fluctuation of the burrower bug in the soil and the damage this species ...

What drives animal responses to high severity fire? The role of functional traits
ABSTRACT Fire regimes are changing worldwide, with increases in the frequency, extent, and severity of fires posing growing risks to biodiversity. Fire severity – the degree of habitat alteration following fire – strongly influences both immediate survival and long‐term recovery of fauna.

Evidence for adaptive explanations of semelparity in animals
ABSTRACT Semelparity, the reproductive strategy of reproducing once, is widespread but uncommon in animals. Classes of models to explain the evolution of semelparity are based either on age structure and mortality schedules – demographic models in which high post‐reproductive mortality risk favours high reproductive effort and semelparity results from ...

Carrion ecology: concepts, interdisciplinary synthesis, and perspectives
ABSTRACT Carrion is a ubiquitous resource in both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, yet it has long been overlooked in ecological research. Over the past two decades, studies on carrion and the many organisms that exploit it have flourished, revealing not only wide‐ranging ecological functions but also significance far beyond ecology.

Biology and Management of Peanut Burrower Bug (Hemiptera: Cydnidae) in Southeast U.S. Peanut
Abstract Peanut burrower bug, Pangaeus bilineatus (Say), is a piercing-sucking pest of peanut, Arachis hypogaea (L.), that is native to Central and North America. The insect spends most of its life below the soil surface and is not easily detected in the field. Although injury to peanut is sporadic in the Southern USA, the bug has become

Food‐solicitation displays in nestling birds: still begging for answers
ABSTRACT Nestling begging is a key model for understanding animal communication and parent–offspring conflict. Dynamic begging displays are often interpreted as costly, honest signals of need, with honesty maintained by viability costs, as proposed in Godfray's influential signalling model.

The modern latitudinal diversity gradient (LDG) of planktonic foraminifera is bimodal, with a distinct depression near the equator surrounded by mid‐latitude diversity peaks. This pattern emerged after the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM; 19–23 ka), but it remains unclear how species' spatial dynamics contributed to its formation.
