Effects of bunching at stops on bus dwell time

16th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC 2013), 2013
Dwell time is an important factor affecting the service capacity of bus route, but the limited capacity of bus stops may lead to the bunching problem which will cause longer dwell time for serving passengers, especially for the corridor with several collinear bus routes.

Empirical Findings of Bus Bunching Distributions and Attributes Using Archived AVL/APC Bus Data

ICCTP 2011, 2011
Bus bunching takes place when headways between buses are irregular leading to longer waiting times for riders, overcrowding in some buses, and an overall decrease on the level of service and capacity. This paper presents a method to identify and visualize bus bunching events temporally and spatially, and an additional method to identify the potential ...

Bus service reliability : bunching and arrival time predictability

2004
One of the aims of this research is to investigate the accuracy of predicted arrival times of buses provided by the Real-Time Tracking System (RTTS) currently being implemented in Christchurch. Surveys have shown an increase in bus patronage since its installation and the idea of improving bus services by providing accurate estimations to bus users is ...

Bus Bunching Detection by Mining Sequences of Headway Deviations

2012
In highly populated urban zones, it is common to notice headway deviations (HD) between pairs of buses. When these events occur in a bus stop, they often cause bus bunching (BB) in the following bus stops. Several proposals have been suggested to mitigate this problem.
