On‐Chip Active Non‐Reciprocal Topological Photonics
An ultra‐compact and efficient on‐chip isolator is experimentally demonstrated by integrating magneto‐optical InSb onto a terahertz silicon topological chip. The simultaneous breaking of spatial and temporal reversal symmetries forms a valley‐conserved non‐reciprocal waveguide mode, enabling a compact cavity size of 6.4 × 2.5λ2 and a low insertion loss

From Buses to BRT: Case Studies of Incremental BRT Projects in North America, MTI Report 09-13 [PDF]
Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) uses different combinations of techniques to improve service, such as bus-only lanes and roads, pre-boarding fare collection, transit priority at traffic signals, stylish vehicles with extra doors, bus stops that are more like ...

Vision‐Assisted Avocado Harvesting with Aerial Bimanual Manipulation
This work outlines the design and implementation of a bimanual aerial robot that employs visual perception and learning to detect, reach, and harvest avocados. A new gripper and fixer arm assembly is used to harvest avocados, while visual perception enables the detection of avocados and estimation of their position and orientation for determining ...

This study presents a novel portable grasp‐assist glove, weighing only 47 g. The glove integrates smart adhesive pads and a hands‐free control interface based on IMU, designed to aid rheumatic patients with impaired hand function. The system enables switchable adhesion with independent control and detection of user release intent.

Real-Time Bus Departure Prediction Using Neural Networks for Smart IoT Public Bus Transit [PDF]
Bus transit plays a vital role in urban public transportation but often struggles to provide accurate and reliable departure times. This leads to delays, passenger dissatisfaction, and decreased ridership, particularly in transit-dependent areas. A major challenge lies in the discrepancy between actual and scheduled bus departure times, which disrupts ...

An Implementation of the Optimal Scheme for Energy Efficient Bus Encoding [PDF]
In computer system buses, most of the energy is spent to change the voltage of each line from high to low or vice versa. Bus encoding schemes aim to improve energy efficiency by limiting the number of transitions between successive uses of the bus. We propose an implementation of the optimal code with reduced number of clock cycles.

Online Static Security Assessment of Power Systems Based on Lasso Algorithm [PDF]
As one important means of ensuring secure operation in a power system, the contingency selection and ranking methods need to be more rapid and accurate. A novel method-based least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (Lasso) algorithm is proposed in this paper to apply to online static security assessment (OSSA).

Choices on public transit options are choices about a city's future. Will there be congestion? Will there be high levels of air and noise pollution? Will transport be affordable? Will services be available to all?
