To the Editor. —In the October 1983Archives, Cartwright et al1describe a patient who inhaled butane gas. As noted in the article, most hydrocarbon incidents have been associated with aspiration of aliphatic hydrocarbons of a higher molecular weight (C8and above).

Use of radiocarbon for comparing the rates of dehydrogenation of butane and butane
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR Division of Chemical Science, 19581. With the aid of butane labeled with radiocarbon, the dehydrogenation of butane-butene mixtures was investigated over an alumina-chromia catalyst. The relative rates of the dehydrogenation of butane and butene to butadiene in presence of a chromium oxide catalyst were calculated from experimental data obtained previously. 2.

Bithalamic Lesions of Butane Encephalopathy
Pediatric Neurology, 2006Butane inhalation can cause serious medical complications and is particularly toxic to the nervous system. This is a report of an acutely encephalopathic youth with prominent abulia. MRI revealed severe bithalamic injury attributed to butane toxicity. Clinical issues, including particular radiologic findings, related to butane inhalation are reviewed.

The Correlation and Prediction of Butane/Water and Gas/Butane Partition Coefficients
The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2008It has been pointed out previously that the butane/water partition coefficient is a key parameter in the determination of extraction affinity. We have taken 43 such partition coefficients and have obtained a very satisfactory correlation with Abraham solvation parameters.

Butane abuse associated Encephalopathy
Klinische Pädiatrie, 2002Butane contained in household products is easily available for abuse and is not subject to legal prosecution in Germany. The toxicological properties of butane mainly affect the heart and the CNS. A serious pathophysiological mechanism is asphyxia due to the replacement of oxygen by butane.

Isobutane, Isopentane, Butane, and Propane
International Journal of ToxicologyThe Expert Panel for Cosmetic Ingredient Safety (Panel) first published the Final Report of the safety of Isobutane, Isopentane, Butane, and Propane in 1982. The Panel previously concluded that these ingredients are considered safe as cosmetic ingredients under the present conditions of concentration and use, as described in that safety assessment ...

In this review, it is aimed to discuss the burns caused by butane, which has many uses in daily life. A detailed and comprehensive literature review was made from Google Scholar, EBSCOHost, Elsevier, Science Direct and Medline databases, and up-to-date data on butane burns were tried to be conveyed.

Dehydroisomerization of N-butane to Isobutene
2015Isobutene is a valuable intermediate in the petrochemical industry, used as a raw material in several commercial processes to produce, for instance, organic acid (methacrolein and methacrylic acid), fuel additive (ethyl tert-butyl and methyl tert-butyl ether), and rubbery materials (polybutene, isoprene).
