Abrasivity evaluation for wear prediction of button drill bits using geotechnical rock properties

Bulletin of Engineering Geology and the Environment, 2019
The current study investigates the wear life of button bits and rate of penetration (ROP) of rotary-percussive drilling machines by employing geotechnical rock properties. According to the research plan, three hydropower projects and six active mining quarries in Pakistan were included. The field work included recording of drill bit consumption (m/bit)

Optimal button arrangement of a percussion drill bit and its operating condition for improving drilling efficiency

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2017
This paper proposes an optimal button arrangement of a percussion drill bit and its operating condition to improve drilling efficiency. A new evaluation method is introduced for the button arrangement that utilizes the superimposed impact area, blank area, and drilling deviation moment as the quantitative indices to evaluate the impact of buttons on ...

Performance Evaluation of Button Bits in Coal Measure Rocks by Using Multiple Regression Analyses

Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, 2015
Electro-hydraulic and jumbo drills are commonly used for underground coal mines and tunnel drives for the purpose of blasthole drilling and rock bolt installations. Not only machine parameters but also environmental conditions have significant effects on drilling. This study characterizes the performance of button bits during blasthole drilling in coal

Analysis of Button Bit Wear and Performance of Down-The-Hole Hammer Drill

2016
This work investigates bit button wear and performance of Down-The Hole Hammer (DTH) drill in Navachab Gold Mine, Namibia. Rock samples obtained were tested in the laboratory for chemical composition, equivalent quartz content and compressive strength. Schmidt hammer was used to determine the rebound hardness values of the selected rocks.
