Simultaneous determination of ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, 1,3-butylene glycol and 2,3-butylene glycol in human serum and urine by wide-bore column gas chromatography

Biomedical Applications, 1993
A method has been developed for the separation and measurement of ethylene glycol and three other glycols (propylene glycol, 1,3-butylene glycol and 2,3-butylene glycol) in biological samples by wide-bore column gas chromatography with a flame ionization detector. The method used 1,3-propylene glycol (1,3-propanediol) as an internal standard.

The effects of glycols on molecular mobility, structure, and permeability in stratum corneum [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Controlled Release, 2022
The skin provides an attractive alternative to the conventional drug administration routes. Still, it comes with challenges as the upper layer of the skin, the stratum corneum (SC), provides an efficient barrier against permeation of most compounds.

A Gas-Liquid Chromatographic Method for Quantitation of 1,3-Butylene Glycol in Whole Blood or Plasma and the Separation of the Short Chain Glycols

open access: yesJournal of Analytical Toxicology, 1986
A microanalytical method with direct on-column specimen injection for determination of 1,3-butylene glycol (1,3-butanediol) in whole blood or plasma using gas-liquid chromatography with flame ionization is described.

Toxicology of a butylene glycol adipic acid polyester

Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, 1973
Abstract No adverse effects were encountered with a butylene glycol adipic acid polyester in chronic feeding studies in rats and dogs or in a 3-generation rat production study at dietary levels of 1000, 5000 and 10,000 ppm.

Cross-Reactivity between Propylene Glycol and Butylene Glycol

Dermatitis®
Abstract: Background: Propylene glycol (PG) and butylene glycol (BG) are not known to be cross-reactors. However, no large-scale studies have assessed the cross-reactivity rate (CRR) between these 2 structurally and ...

The Present Status of the 2, 3-Butylene Glycol Fermentation

1963
Publisher Summary This chapter explores the development on fermentation production of 2, 3-butylene glycol. The earliest report of the production of 2, 3-butylene glycol by bacterial fermentation was that of Harden and Walpole using cultures of Aerobucter aerogenes.

Preparation of radioactive diacetyl, acetoin, and 2,3-butylene glycol

Analytical Biochemistry, 1981
Abstract Toluene-treated cells of Streptococcus diacetilactis produced large amounts of diacetyl and acetoin without 2,3-butylene glycol. With Na-[3-14C]pyruvate added to reaction mixtures in place of unlabeled pyruvate, diacetyl with specific activity of 6.1 × 104 cpm/μmol and acetoin with specific activity of 6.8 × 104 cpm/μmol were harvested ...

The bacterial formation of acetylmethyl-carbinol and 2:3-butylene glycol

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1952
Abstract The formation of acetylmethyccarbinol and 2:3-butylene glycol has been studied using washed cell suspensions of Aerobacter aerogenes. The results show marked differences in the production of the two four-carbon compounds from glucose and pyruvic acid and make it improbable that a simple decarboxylation of pyruvic acid to acetaldehyde ...

Synthesis of elastic biodegradable polyesters of ethylene glycol and butylene glycol from sebacic acid

Acta Biomaterialia, 2012
High molecular weight biodegradable polyesters were prepared from sebacic acid, ethylene glycol and butylene glycol through a simple non-solvent polycondensation with a low toxicity catalyst. The successful synthesis of the polyesters was confirmed by gel permeation chromatography, (1)H-nuclear magnetic resonance and Fourier transform-infrared ...
