AbstractCalled boxwood from ancient times, the close-grained hard wood had long been used for making boxes and chests because it takes a very high polish. It was and apparently still is in great demand for engraving blocks, rulers, musical instruments, and shuttles.

Steroidal alkaloids from leaves of Buxus sempervirens
Phytochemistry, 1991Abstract Leaves of Buxus sempervirens of Turkish origin have yielded three new steroidal alkaloids, (+)-sempervirine, (−)-31-acetyl-cyclomicrophylline-A and (−)-benzoylbuxidienine. Two known bases (+)-buxamine-C and (+)-buxabenzamidienine have also been isolated for the first time from this plant. The structures have been determined on the basis of

Pseudocyclobuxin-D from Buxus sempervirens
Chemistry of Natural Compounds, 19731. A new alkaloid, pseudocyclobuxin-D, has been isolated from the leaves and fine flowers ofBuxus sempervirens. The results of a comparison of the physicochemical properties of pseudocyclobuxin-D and its derivatives with cyclobuxin-D and its derivatives has shown that the alkaloid isolated is an isomer of cyclobuxin-D and has the structure of 14α ...

Buxaline-C from Buxus sempervirens
Chemistry of Natural Compounds, 1975A new alkaloid buxaline-C has been isolated fromBuxus sempervirens cultivated in Tashkent. The results of a comparison of the physicochemical properties of the products of the hydrolysis of buxaline-C and those of cycloprotobuxine C have enabled the structure and configuration of buxaline-C to be determined as 3β-acetylmethylamino-20β-dimethylamino-4,4,

Semperviramidine—A new steroidal alkaloid from Buxus sempervirens
Phytochemistry, 1988Abstract From leaves of B. sempervirens a new steroidal alkaloid (+)-semperviramidine has been isolated and structurally elucidated as (20S)-16α-acetoxy-3β-benzoylamino-20-dimethylamino-4,4,14-trimethyl-9β,19-cyclo-5α-pregnane (1) by spectroscopic methods.

Alkaloids of Buxus sempervirens var rotundifolia BAILLON
Collection of Czechoslovak Chemical Communications, 1981Twenty one alkaloids were isolated from the leaves of Buxus sempervirens var rotundifolia BAILLON. Buxaminol-B, cyclobuxine-D, cyclovirobuxine-D, cycloprotobuxine-C, buxamine-E, buxtauine-M and buxpiine-K were those already known. New alkaloids, the constitution and configuration of which were inferred from physical data and corroborated by ...
