Cattle persistently infected (PI) with noncytopathic (ncp) bovine virus diarrhea virus (BVDV) are at risk for developing fatal mucosal disease (MD), which is considered to occur after superinfection with antigenically homologous cytopathic (cp) BVDV. In this study, we intranasally inoculated four PI-animals, that were PI with 2 ncp BVDV strains with 10(

First report of BVDV circulation in sheep in Argentina
Preventive Veterinary Medicine, 2009Pestiviruses are capable of infecting a wide range of animals within the order Artyodactila. Currently, the genus Pestivirus includes Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus 1 (BVDV-1) and 2 (BVDV-2), Border Disease Virus (BDV), and Classical Swine Fever Virus (CSFV). BVDV-1, BVDV-2 and BDV are able to cross species barrier to infect a wide range of hosts, whereas

Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is a pathogen associated with loss of meat, milk, and reproductive performance in cattle across the world. There have been two types of BVDV identified worldwide: BVDV-1 and BVDV-2. However, a new type of BVDV, named HoBi-like pestivirus (BVDV-3), has been identified recently. BVDV presence in Turkey has been reported

The purpose of this study was to compare clinical and virological differences between non-cytopathic (ncp) bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV)-1 and ncp BVDV-2 isolated from Korean field cases. Each five naïve calves were experimentally infected with Korean ncp BVDV-1 or BVDV-2 isolates.

Persistent BVDV infection in mousedeer infects calves. Do we know the reservoirs for BVDV?
Preventive veterinary medicine, 2006Bovine virus diarrhoea virus (BVDV)-1f was isolated from a Lesser Malayan Mousedeer in Copenhagen Zoo during a routine screening. Analysis of animals related to the Copenhagen mousedeer revealed that its mother and all siblings were virus positive, a pattern also seen for persistently infected (PI) cattle.

Challenges of BVDV eradication in ‘closed’ cattle herds
Veterinary Record, 2012AT a recent meeting with a new dairy client I was informed that the herd was ‘closed’ as no cattle had been purchased for 20 years. However, this herd is typical of many – expanding cow numbers without expanding housing facilities on the main holding, requiring housing and grazing at premises away from home.
