Upwelling induced by periodic wind stress

Il Nuovo Cimento C, 1988
In this paper we exhibit analytical solutions for the upwelling and the coastal currents induced by periodic wind stress. We present solutions for an infinite deep ocean and for a shallow ocean. There is upwelling only when the period of the forcing is longer than the inertial period,i.e. f>ω. When the period of the forcing is shorter than the inertial

Hypokalemic periodic paralysis exacerbated by acetazolamide

Neurology, 1981
Although acetazolamide usually prevents paralytic attacks in hypokalemic periodic paralysis, not all patients benefit from this treatment. We studied a father and two sons in whom attack frequency and severity increased on acetazolamide. Administration of triamterene virtually abolished attacks in three separate single-blind trials totaling more than ...

Functionalization of pectin by periodate oxidation

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2013
High methoxy citrus pectin was oxidized by periodic acid to prepare a dialdehyde functionalized material. The effect of various reaction conditions, viz., reaction time, reaction temperature, pH of the medium, periodic acid concentration and solvent composition on the oxidation process was investigated.

Periodic solutions generated by bäcklund transformations

Physica D: Nonlinear Phenomena, 1986
Bäcklund transformations are applied to study the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, second harmonics generation and self-induced transparency. Their simplest solutions which can be expressed in terms of elementary functions have been derived and proved that they are periodic up to a phase factor.

Diffraction by periodic graphs

Complex Variables and Elliptic Equations, 2013
The paper is devoted to the diffraction of graphs imbedded in periodic with respect to the action of the group We consider the Helmholtz equation (1) where, is the frequency of a medium, is the frequency of harmonic vibrations, and is the velocity of sound.

Scattering by periodic surfaces

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1975
Reflection behavior is examined for an interface having periodic height variation. Upon employing the Bloch theorem, in conjunction with the extended boundary condition, exact matrix equations are obtained for surface fields, as well as transmitted and reflected wave amplitudes.

Flame Extinction by Periodic Flow Field

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1991
Summary: It is shown that the adiabatic premixed flame propagating through zero- mean, time-independent, periodic flow-field is quenched provided the flow-field intensity exceeds a certain critical level. It is argued that this effect may be relevant to the experimentally known phenomenon of flame quenching by turbulence.

Wave Reflection by a Periodic Medium

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1972
The reflection of waves by a periodic medium is studied in this paper. Assuming steady state waves, the two-dimensional wave equation is reduced to a second order differential equation with periodic coefficients, which is analogous to the one-dimensional Mathieu equation. This governing equation is studied by perturbation methods. Both conventional and
