Effects of solar cell group granularity and modern system architectures on partial shading response of crystalline silicon modules and systems

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, Volume 29, Issue 9, Page 977-989, September 2021., 2021
We have shown that even in residential roofs with several shading objects, the yield losses with standard system configurations (standard module design and string inverter) are in the order of 9% annually (inclusive DC/AC conversion). This can be further reduced to 6%–7% with the use of MLPE.

Proof of concept for a novel and smart shade resilient photovoltaic module

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation, Volume 13, Issue 12, Page 2184-2194, September 2019., 2019
In this study, the performance of a shade resilient smart module is studied under a dynamic shading pattern. A smart module architecture is developed to mitigate the non‐linear shading effect on the module performance. Partial shading decreases the output current of the shaded cells and affects the unshaded cells’ output power.

Scaling capacity of fiber‐optic transmission systems via silicon photonics

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 9, Issue 16, Page 4629-4663, June 2018., 2018
Abstract The tremendous growth of data traffic has spurred a rapid evolution of optical communications for a higher data transmission capacity. Next‐generation fiber‐optic communication systems will require dramatically increased complexity that cannot be obtained using discrete components.

Immunogenic Cell Death: Can It Be Exploited in PhotoDynamic Therapy for Cancer?

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
Immunogenic Cell Death (ICD) could represent the keystone in cancer management since tumor cell death induction is crucial as well as the control of cancer cells revival after neoplastic treatment. In this context, the immune system plays a fundamental role.

A single phase nine level common ground switched capacitor inverter with double boosting capability

open access: yesIET Power Electronics, Volume 17, Issue 16, Page 2900-2916, 16 December 2024.
The proposed 9L7S‐CGSC‐TL inverter comprises of only seven switches, two diodes, three self‐balanced capacitors, and one DC source. The suggested inverter is having CG connection which eliminates ground leakage currents. Additionally, the suggested topology necessitates fewer conducting devices, thereby reducing conduction losses. Abstract This article

Intrinsic performance loss rate: Decoupling reversible and irreversible losses for an improved assessment of photovoltaic system performance

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, Volume 32, Issue 11, Page 774-789, November 2024.
This study discusses the integration of fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) with performance loss rate (PLR) evaluations to filter out reversible losses like shading, snow and downtime, which can bias PLR estimates. This offers a solution to avoid the influence of such reversible effects, leading to the definition of the intrinsic PLR (i‐PLR ...
