Miniaturized Devices for On‐the‐Spot Generation of Small‐Diameter Vascular Grafts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
An intracorporeal extrusion device is developed for on‐the‐spot generation of vascular grafts with tunable diameters spanning from 1 to 6 mm. The device uses biomimetic polymers and light, to promptly obtaining biocompatible and high‐burst pressure‐resistant grafts.

Coronary angiography of the ex‐situ beating donor heart in a portable organ care system

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Volume 100, Issue 7, Page 1252-1260, December 1, 2022., 2022
Abstract Objectives To determine safety and feasibility of ex‐situ coronary angiography. Background To cater for the perpetually growing demand for heart donors, interest in donation following circulatory death (DCD) has been rekindled. Further pursuit of donor pool expansion has led to eligibility extension to “marginal” donors who are at higher risk ...

Acute Dissection of the Ascending Aorta as a Rare Complication of Aortocoronary Bypasses Surgery: A Case Report

open access: yesJournal of Tehran University Heart Center, 2019
Many complications may ensue coronary bypass surgery. Among these complications, early or late dissection of the ascending aorta is a very rare condition. Successful surgery without life-threatening results can save lives. In this case report, we present

Coronary artery grafting in infants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) with cardiac vale repair is an uncommon surgery in infants. CABG is technically demanding in infants due to the small size not only of the coronary arteries but also the potential graft arteries.

Subtherapeutic anticoagulation with dabigatran following Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We report a 66-year-old male with a history of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery who began dabigatran for new onset atrial fibrillation. After 5 weeks of therapy, his transesophageal echocardiogram prior to electrocardioversion showed severe spontaneous ...

Mechanochemistry: Fundamental Principles and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this review, the physicochemical principles of mechanochemistry are first clarified. Based on this foundation, the research basis and cutting‐edge scientific achievements in four areas are introduced: solid‐state organic chemistry, polymers, interface science, and biomechanochemistry.

Neural Plasticity and Hearing‐Speech Development in Children with Auditory Brainstem Implants for Congenital Hearing Loss Due to Severe Inner Ear Malformation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Data from a prospective cohort with 112 auditory brainstem implant users are analyzed. Younger age at implantation (<3 years), less severe inner‐ear malformation (common cavity, cochlear aplasia, and hypoplasia), and more intraoperative eABR evoked electrodes (≥60%) are associated with better hearing and speech outcomes.

Developing Quorum Sensing‐Based Collaborative Dynamic Control System in Halomonas TD01

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A standardized and streamlined inducer‐free quorum sensing (QS)‐based collaborative dynamic control pattern is developed for sufficient gene expression control in Halomonas TD by mixing two engineered cells, cells A and B. Proof‐of‐concept studies are designed to test the dynamic control performance in mixed cultures in fed‐batch conditions.

Deep Learning Approach for Predicting 30 Day Readmissions after Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Hospital Readmissions within 30 days after discharge following Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) Surgery are substantial contributors to healthcare costs. Many predictive models were developed to identify risk factors for readmissions. However, majority of the existing models use statistical analysis techniques with data available at discharge.

Comparison of coronary-artery bypass surgery and stenting for the treatment of multivessel disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
BACKGROUND: The recent recognition that coronary-artery stenting has improved the short- and long-term outcomes of patients treated with angioplasty has made it necessary to reevaluate the relative benefits of bypass surgery and percutaneous ...
