C‐type natriuretic peptide in prostate cancer

C‐type natriuretic peptide (CNP) is expressed in the male reproductive organs in pigs. To examine whether the human prostate also expresses the CNP gene, we measured CNP and N‐terminal proCNP in prostate cancer tissue extracts and performed immunohistochemical biopsy staining.

Studies were performed in three groups of anesthetized dogs to compare the structurally related peptides atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP). Group 1 (n = 5) and group 2 (n = 4) received intravenous infusions of CNP or ANP respectively at doses of 10 ng.kg-1.min-1 and 100 ng.kg-1.min-1.

We have identified recently a new peptide, NT-proCNP(1–50) (N-terminal pro-C-type natriuretic peptide), in the circulation of humans and sheep.
