The cytochromec oxidase from the yeastCandida parapsilosis
Journal of Bioenergetics and Biomembranes, 1987In the yeast Candida parapsilosis, the proteins encoded by mitochondrial DNA are different in number and size from those of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Nevertheless, the purified cytochrome c oxidase from Candida parapsilosis shows kinetic properties similar to those of Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Many microorganisms readily form microbial biofilms whose resistance to antimicrobial compounds is several orders of magnitude higher than that of the planktonic form. One such genus is the yeast Candida, whose species include both human commensals and opportunistic pathogens that are the cause of many fungal infections.

Misidentification of Candida parapsilosis as C famata in a Clinical Case of Vertebral Osteomyelitis
The American Journal of the Medical Sciences, 2011A case of vertebral osteomyelitis involving misidentification of Candida parapsilosis as C famata by the VITEK 2 compact is described. Species-specific primers were used in the polymerase chain reaction to correctly identify the clinical isolate. When uncommon species of Candida are reported using automated systems, heightened clinical suspicion is ...

Isolation, characterization and function of the two cytochromes c of the yeast Candida parapsilosis
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 1993Candida parapsilosis is a strictly aerobic yeast which possesses two respiratory chains with a peculiar organisation, different from that of plant mitochondria. Besides the classical electron transport pathway, mitochondria of C. parapsilosis develops an alternative pathway, which does not branch off at the ubiquinone level, but merges at the complex ...

Candida spp. have attracted considerable attention as they cause serious human diseases in immunocompromised individuals. The genomes of the pathogenic Candida spp. have been sequenced, but systemic characterizations of their kinomes are yet to be reported.

At the current state of laboratory diagnostics, methods for fast identification of phenotypically indistinguishable species are difficult or inaccurate. An example is represented by Candida parapsilosis, which is the second most common yeast species isolated from bloodstream infections. C.

Caspofungin activity was determined in vitro and in vivo against three Candida orthopsilosis, three C. metapsilosis, two C. parapsilosis sensu stricto and two C. albicans isolates. MIC values and killing activity were determined in RPMI-1640 plus 50 % human serum.

Candida parapsilosis complex (CPC) is the third Candida species isolated in blood cultures of patients from our Hospital, following C. albicans and C. tropicalis. From 2006 to 2010, the median annual distribution of CPC was 8 cases/year. Records of 36 patients were reviewed. CPC were 31 (86.1%) C. parapsilosis; 4 (11.1%) C.
