Synovial interleukin‐6 point‐of‐care testing, alone and combined with D‐dimer, supports rapid diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infection

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Data on the reliability of point‐of‐care (POC) tests for the rapid diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infections (PJI) using synovial fluid (SF) D‐dimer (DD), interleukin 6 (IL‐6) and procalcitonin (PCT) are limited. This study aimed to address this issue by evaluating the diagnostic accuracy of POC tests for SF DD, IL‐6 and PCT in ...

A Candida parapsilosis Overexpression Collection Reveals Genes Required for Pathogenesis

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2021
Relative to the vast data regarding the virulence mechanisms of Candida albicans, there is limited knowledge on the emerging opportunistic human pathogen Candida parapsilosis.

Invasive yeast infection in paediatric acute lymphoblastic leukaemia: A report from the multi‐international clinical trial AIEOP‐BFM ALL 2009

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
Prospective data of a large randomized multi‐international leukaemia trial revealed an incidence of 1.1% of invasive yeast infections (IYIs) in children with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. IYIs occurred predominantly during induction chemotherapy, presented as bloodstream infection ± tissue involvement, were due to a variety of yeast and had an ...

Antifungal Susceptibility Analysis of Clinical Isolates of Candida parapsilosis in Iran

open access: yesIranian Journal of Public Health, 2016
Background: Candida parapsilosis is an emergent agent of invasive fungal infections. This yeast is one of the five most widespread yeasts concerned in invasive candidiasis. C.

Global Prevalence of Antifungal-Resistant Candida parapsilosis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

open access: yesTropical Medicine and Infectious Disease, 2022
A reliable estimate of Candida parapsilosis antifungal susceptibility in candidemia patients is increasingly important to track the spread of C. parapsilosis bloodstream infections and define the true burden of the ongoing antifungal resistance.

The role of Candida species in colonization, invasion and damage of an in vitro reconstituted human oral epithelium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The role of Candida species in colonization, invasion and damage of an in vitro r Oral candisosis is a common problem in immunocompromised patients, and whilst Candida albicans is regarded as the principal cause of infection, other Candida species are ...

Molecular identification of Candida orthopsilosis isolated from blood culture. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The incidence of candidemia and invasive candidiasis have increased markedly due to the increasing number of immunocompromised patients. There are five major medically important species of Candida with their frequency of isolation in the diminishing ...

Infection Complications in Pediatric Patients With Inborn Errors of Immunity After Umbilical Cord Blood Transplantation: A Chinese Single‐Center Study

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, EarlyView.
This study reveals that infections are highly prevalent in pediatric IEI patients after umbilical cord blood transplantation, with early‐stage infections and bloodstream infections strongly associated with poorer survival. These findings advocate for risk‐stratified surveillance and preemptive strategies in high‐risk subgroups.

First report of monomicrobial Candida parapsilosis necrotizing fasciitis

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, 2016
AbstractCandida parapsilosis is an emerging pathogen worldwide. It commonly causes soft tissue infection; however, to our knowledge there has been no previous report of monomicrobial necrotizing soft tissue infection (NSTI) secondary to C. parapsilosis. We report the first case of NSTI caused by C.
