STFormer: Spatio‐temporal former for hand–object interaction recognition from egocentric RGB video

open access: yesElectronics Letters, Volume 60, Issue 17, September 2024.
We propose an end‐to‐end spatio‐temporal former network for understanding hand behaviour in interactions. To attain semantic comprehending of lengthy videos, we predict 3D hand pose keypoints and interaction object labels for each image frame.

Public understanding of regimes of risk regulation: Focus groups with citizens and consumers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This report investigates the nature of public understanding of risk and regulation. Issues of risk and regulation are both significant for the public and recognised as such by them.

“You go in heavy and you come out light”: An interpretative phenomenological analysis of reflective practice experiences in an Irish infant mental health setting

open access: yesInfant Mental Health Journal: Infancy and Early Childhood, Volume 45, Issue 4, Page 411-437, July 2024.
Abstract Reflective practice (RP) is a core component of infant mental health (IMH); however, there is limited published empirical research on IMH practitioner experiences of RP. This two‐stage, qualitative, multimodal study explored Irish IMH practitioners’ experiences of RP spaces.

An improved coupled inductor‐based quadratic step‐up DC–DC converter with a high step‐up factor and reduced voltage overshoot on the power switch

open access: yesIET Power Electronics, Volume 17, Issue 9, Page 986-1004, 24 July 2024.
This paper proposes an improved coupled inductor‐based DC–DC converter, which provides a high quadratic voltage conversion ratio without excessive voltage stresses on the power switch. Abstract Most coupled inductor‐based step‐up DC–DC converters encounter a significant voltage overshoot on their power switch due to the leakage inductance of the ...

Optimal Defensive Strategies in One-Dimensional RISK

open access: yes, 2015
We consider a one-dimensional version of the board game RISK and discuss the problem of how a defending player might choose to distribute his armies along a chain of territories in order to maximize the probability of survival.

Survey of research on confidential computing

open access: yesIET Communications, Volume 18, Issue 9, Page 535-556, June 2024.
This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the development process of confidential computing, summarizing its current research status and issues, which focuses on the security requirements for data security and privacy protection. Abstract As the global data strategy deepens and data elements accelerate integrating and flowing more rapidly, the ...

Parenting the parent without losing sight of the child. A qualitative study of therapists’ experiences with intergenerational adversities in perinatal psychotherapy

open access: yesInfant Mental Health Journal: Infancy and Early Childhood, Volume 45, Issue 2, Page 201-216, March 2024.
Abstract The complex work of addressing intergenerational adversities, like violence, abuse, and neglect through perinatal psychotherapy, is understudied. Especially noticeable is the paucity of studies giving voice to the therapists. This study explored therapeutic processes through the perspectives of seven Norwegian therapists.

Assessment of owner perceptions of caregiver burden, veterinarian–client relationship and satisfaction with the provider in canine pruritus: An experimental vignette study

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 35, Issue 1, Page 81-91, February 2024.
Abstract Background Complicated treatments for skin disease are linked to owner‐caregiver burden and poorer perception of the veterinarian–client relationship, regardless of disease severity. Hypotheses/Objectives Using experimental vignettes, we explored the impact on owner perception of the interaction of treatment complexity and skin disease ...

Model reduction of fractional impedance spectra for time–frequency analysis of batteries, fuel cells, and supercapacitors

open access: yesCarbon Energy, Volume 6, Issue 1, January 2024.
For a better joint time–frequency analysis on electrochemical energy devices, such as lithium‐ion batteries, supercapacitors, and fuel cells, a thorough model reduction of fractional impedance spectra has been theoretically addressed and numerically validated, with emphasis on the evolution of the characteristic time constants during the whole model ...

A "Starless" Core that Isn't: Detection of a Source in the L1014 Dense Core with the Spitzer Space Telescope [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We present observations of L1014, a dense core in the Cygnus region previously thought to be starless, but data from the Spitzer Space Telescope show the presence of an embedded source. We propose a model for this source that includes a cold core, heated
