Compartmentation and Transport in C4 Photosynthesis

1976
The C4 dicarboxylic acid pathway of photosynthetic carbon assimilation (the C4 pathway) is a complex biochemical and physiological elaboration of the common photosynthetic carbon reduction cycle (PCR cycle, C3 pathway; Bassham and Calvin, 1962). We define the C4 pathway as the complete reaction sequence in which CO2 is transferred via the C-4 carboxyl ...

C4 Photosynthesis: Mechanism and Regulation

2000
The C4 photosynthetic process is a combination of biochemical, anatomical and genetic specialization which concentrates CO2 at the site of carbon fixation, ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase. This essentially suppresses photorespiration and allows carbon fixation to proceed at near CO2 saturation.

Single-cell C4 Photosynthesis

2021
Tek hücre C4 fotosentezi moleküler, biyokimyasal, anatomik özelliklerin bir bütünüdür. C4 fotosentezinin yaklaşık 25-30 milyon önce Oligosen’de CO2 seviyesindeki azalmaya bağlı olarak ortaya çıktığı tahmin edilmektedir. Yüksek yapılı bitkilerde, yüksek sıcaklıklarda fotosentezin verimliliği, Rubisco (Ribuloz 1,5 bisfosfat karboksilaz/oksijenaz ...

The Physiological Ecology of C4 Photosynthesis

2000
C4 photosynthesis is an evolutionary syndrome that concentrates CO2 around Rubisco and in so doing reduces photorespiratory inhibition of photosynthesis to negligible levels. It is not a single pathway, but a syndrome of functionally similar modifications that utilize phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylation in mesophyll cells, and transport of four-carbon ...

Developmental Aspects of C4 Photosynthesis

2000
Development of a fully functional C4 leaf requires modification of the C3 ground state at several hierarchical levels, including vein spacingin whole leaves, cell division and cell enlarge ment patterns within the photosynthetic tissue precursors, ultrastructural changes in bundle sheath (BS) and mesophyll (M) cells, and regulation of gene expression ...

Photosynthesis of C4 Desert Plants

2009
There are more than 40 species of C4 woody plants (including semi-woody) in the deserts of China. These plants are exclusively members of Chenopodiaceae and Polygonaceae; members of other families have not been found. This chapter introduces some of their characteristics, e.g., photosynthetic structure, carbon isotope composition, gas exchange ...

Regulation of Enzymes in C4 Photosynthesis

1978
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses what is known about the regulation of a metabolic variant of photosynthesis known as the C 4 pathway. Photosynthetic carbon metabolism is an inherently complex process. A cyclic sequence of reactions is essential, as the primary CO 2 acceptor must be continually regenerated from assimilated carbon, and there
