On the roles of Ca2+ diffusion, Ca2+ buffers, and the endoplasmic reticulum in IP3-induced Ca2+ waves

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 1995
We have investigated the effects of Ca2+ diffusion, mobile and stationary Ca2+ buffers in the cytosol, and Ca2+ handling by the endoplasmic reticulum on inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate-induced Ca2+ wave propagation. Rapid equilibration of free and bound Ca2+ is used to describe Ca2+ sequestration by buffers in both the cytosol and endoplasmic reticulum ...

Transparent and Robust LiCl–Organohydrogel Triboelectric Nanogenerator With Deep Learning Assisted Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Develop a LiCl–PEI–PAM hydrogel with 3000% stretchability and excellent optical transparency. Through comparative studies of various salts, confirm that LiCl is the most suitable salt for high TENG output. Achieve excellent freeze‐resistant, dry‐resistant, and rapid self‐healing (10 s) properties even in extreme environments. Balance ionic conductivity,

Mechanical and Electrical Phenotype of hiPSC‐Cardiomyocytes on Fibronectin‐Based Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce fibronectin‐based PEG hydrogels with controlled rigidity to enable the culture of iPSC‐derived cardiomyocytes. These substrates offer an alternative to the current culture of these cells on fibronectin‐coated glass, providing enhanced structural and functional behavior. The system provides a more physiologically relevant platform to assess

The Ca2+ transport mechanisms of mitochondria and Ca2+ uptake from physiological-type Ca2+ transients

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 1998
Mitochondria contain a sophisticated system for transporting Ca2+. The existence of a uniporter and of both Na+-dependent and -independent efflux mechanisms has been known for years. Recently, a new mechanism, called the RaM, which seems adapted for sequestering Ca2+ from physiological transients or pulses has been discovered.

Nanobody‐Conjugated Theranostic Prodrug Targeting αvβ3 Integrin Enables Precision Cancer Therapy With Real‐Time Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The image shows a schematic form a nanobody‐conjugated theranostic prodrug (NBD) platform targeting tumor‐associated αvβ3 integrin. The NBD system integrates selective nanobody‐mediated tumor recognition, glutathione‐responsive disulfide cleavage for doxorubicin release, and aza‐BODIPY‐based near‐infrared fluorescence for real‐time imaging.

Calcium promoting maturity of oocytes through calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II of yak (Bos grunniens)

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science
Yaks (Bos grunniens) are the most economically important mammals on the Xizang Plateau, providing milk, meat and income for people. The molecule CaMKII is key to the cellular Ca2+ signalling pathway, which can regulate intracellular environmental ...

Extracellular Vesicles Modulation by an Adiponectin Receptor Agonist Provides Cardioprotection for Myocardial Ischemic Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that ALY688, a drug mimicking the heart‐protective hormone adiponectin, reduces myocardial ischemia injury. ALY688 increases the production of extracellular vesicles, which carry protective cargo including adiponectin itself.

Voltage-dependent anion channels: different isoforms for different functions

open access: yes, 2009
The Voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC) is the most abundant protein of the outer mitochondrial membrane (OMM) and mediates the flow of ions and metabolites between the cytoplasm and the mitochondrial network.

A Data Driven Review of In Vitro Electrical and Mechanical Stimulation for Post‐Acute Phase Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines how in vitro electrical and mechanical stimulation modulates wound healing in fibroblasts and keratinocytes. Analyzing over 560 experimental data points, we relate stimulation parameters to proliferation and migration outcomes, evaluate platform designs, and highlight the need for multi‐parameter optimization to advance targeted ...
