In recent years, effects of wind action and oscillation have been investigated very thoroughly for suspension bridges; such analyses are also required for cable-stayed bridges. Purely mathematical analysis of this problem is impractical at this time, so that model testing is used instead.

ON THE OPTIMAL DESIGN OF CABLE-STAYED BRIDGES
Proceedings of the VII European Congress on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences and Engineering (ECCOMAS Congress 2016), 2016This paper studies cable-stayed bridges (CBSs), with special focus on the initial force distri-butions in cables during construction phases. An algorithm for the optimal design of the pre-tensioning sequence of cables is presented. A procedure for the optimization of cable forces is developed, according to a given objective function.

Influence of lateral motion of cable stays on cable-stayed bridges
Structural Engineering and Mechanics, 2010The aim of this paper concerns with the nonlinear analysis of cable-stayed bridges including the vibration effect of cable stays. Two models for the cable stay system are built up in the study. One is the OECS (one element cable system) model in which one single element per cable stay is used and the other is MECS (multi-elements cable system) model ...

A Study on Cable-Stayed Bridges
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012Cable-stayed bridges can be recognized as a suitable solution for connecting wide-span crossings. More than 600 cable bridges are constructed in the world till now while this process is in progress and this number is increasing. The span of cable bridges is between 100m to 500m wide usually while length of widest cable bridges has increased up to 1000m

Constructability of Cable‐Stayed Bridges
Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, 1991The application of cable‐stayed structures has increased during the last few years in North America. The implementation of these new structures has led to serious problems in the design and construction process. This paper provides an analysis of the most significant problems identified by owners, designers, and contractors.

The Rise of the Cable-Stayed Bridge
Scientific American, 2015The article cites the Tappan Zee bridge in New York City as an example of decaying infrastructure in the U.S., and speaks approvingly of a new design planned to replace it. The Tappan Zee is a cantilever bridge that costs $50 million annually to maintain.
